2000 Mazda ProtegeSPEED (mazdaspeed clone)
hey everyone i just put an msp motor in my 2000 protege im turning into a ProtegeSPEED (build coming soon). just got the motor in though and started up once ran but missed. so i made sure i had the plugs ran right (accidentaly didnt connect one) now it wont start at all just back fires...any ideas?

i see you have an MSP motor in your P5 were/are there any big diffrences in components? im still using the original sensors and everything. (cam,crank,02 etc)

EDIT: oh yeah if it helps my old engine was hard to start before it blew but i contributed that to the low compression in cyl 2 and 4.

heres a video of the problem <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hj9WoxAmz8M?hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hj9WoxAmz8M?hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Direct drop in. No difference in the engine. The video is not long enough to hear the problem

are there any diffrences between 1.8 and 2.0 parts? if they are they same i can use those to do a test

ok tried new computer. that didnt do anything to help. im lost ...who ever helps me get this thing running gets 100bux on my payday!

Have you done any maintenance on the motor? or just dropped the motor right in? I would chase some ignition parts....i.e. plugs, coils etc. Check the plug gap, then move to fuel injectors, fuel filter etc. What CEL do you have ?

The coil packs are different. The 1.8 has both coil packs togheter in one unit with 4 cables going out while the 2.0 has two seperate coil packs situated on top of the valve cover. If I'm not mistaken on iver cylinder 2 with a cable to cylinder 3 and one over cylinder 4 with a cable to cylinder 1. The both work in the same way making it possible to use a 1.8 coil setup on a 2.0 motor.

well the things ive done to this motor vefore dropping it in:
plugs (NGK V power)
Wires (NGK)
new injectors (from AAP)
oil change

done to car:
new fuel pump (from MSP)
new ECU (i have 2 diff ones)

this isnt the first motor ive swapped before. i buy all of my cars from the junk yard i used to work at (including this one) and ive had to change a few motors and trans before. and i worked for aamco transmissions for a while as a builder too. (so if your trans acts up let me kno (coffee)

EDIT: CAR WAS ORIGINALY A 1.8 ES.

guys im lost...im about to pull this motor and find another one and try again....is there anyone in south fla that can help me out here? lol

have you checked the starter? nto sure about our starters but some have 4 prongs, 2 for main power/ground and 2 others one for start and the other for run. again, not sure if ours are like that

havent checked timing yet actually since it ran in the old car ...and im using the 1.8 starter

not sure if they are compatible so i cant help you there, sorry. i definitely feel like its a problem with transferring over from start to run. it might be possible that the 1.8 isnt powerful enough to efficiently turn over the 2.0, but wait for other input, im just throwing out possibilities
