engine management

The info is getting better and better with every post you make, simply awesome. Anyway this all just makes me happy that there are people like yourself that care enough to actually make or push other manufacturers to make parts for our beloved cars :) Thanks a lot

Everyone,

I upgrade the ECU the minute I bought my P5. After to talking to Critter, I got in touch with Unichip (US). They currently have the Protege on the block for making a chip, right after they finish the RX8 (almost complete). But if we would be interested in a Group Buy, they are willing to push up the project on the front burners.

Now Jack Friedman, General Manager of Unichip of North America, is working out pricing for me and what Unichip has to offer for the Proteges. When I recieve it, I will forward on to everyone.

If you are interested in getting more info right now here is their website:

That's excellent news guys. Thanks for the info, and once again thanks for doing this, all input is greatly appreciated

nick and others...there's been some movement at the station (read - australian version of a ranch)...

us australians dont have the eecv ecu. we have EGI. i'm guessing that's right. at the top on the sticker is says FS7E and under there is says EGI...so maybe the chip that unichip are making wont even work on the yank P5 etc...

so nick, what the hell do i have this time? OBD-I ecu?

ecu will be outta the car sitting in front of my puter until tomorrow arvo aussie time (cleaning up wiring because i'm putting in an amp at the moment - the ecu hole is the best place for wires in my car to go through)

Thanks in advance

Can some one tell me what exactly you guys are discussing. I was trying to figure it out for a while, what is the eecv and EGI are. And why wouldn't unichip work with the US engine? Man I am confused, am I?

eecv and egi are different versions of ECU's. since unichip are australian and we have the egi ecu, i'm guessing that their chip wont work on your cars because you have a different ecu

hey if i have j-spec ecu, i wonder why my engine does put out the same power as the j-spec???
Hey did you mean why DONT you put out the same power or why DO you?
I dont think it is the same motor is it?
Im not really familiar with J-spec engines. I know some on this board are but i dont know really any specs on them at all.
Talk to me about what ive worked on here and no problem;) :p
