Engine Knocking

I was just wondering if any of you guys out there have problems with your engine? Whenever I idle my engine seems to knock sort of hard, the RPMs flux real bad and it sounds much louder than it used to. I have been back to the dealer 5 different time for failed coil packs and destroyed spark plugs. I just wanted to see if anyone else was having this problem and if you found a way to fix it like higher performance spark plugs and ignition wires. Let me know, because if the dealership cant fix this problem I am going to have to get rid of my baby.

Car: 2003 Protege 5 Automatic with Sport-Tronic Shifter.

the RPM problem might be the EGR
as for the destroyed plugs and such, maybe the VTCS screw came out like many other people have experienced?

Does it sound like a Valve knock if so Bearings are bad.... I am having my crank and bearings done. I just got the parts from Mazdaspeed Japan. Pistons, crank and bearings.. Mazda dealer is doing the install.....

The Throttle Position adjustor should be able to hold a steady RPM. Look at the EGR and the PCV.

PCV is cheap. You don't want the bearings in the crank to go bad. I'm fighting with MEPP right now to fix mine.

I am having that very similar problem with my Pro5 right now.

I have the AT-sport as-well and I have noticed that shuttering and shaking in the whole car. It seems to happen in Drive "first gear", while idle: stationary or in motion, neutral, or park. And sometimes reverse. It happend a little last fall before winter and the dealership said it may have been the EGR valve, but because the vehicle was not sputtering right there in the delaership's garage, and no CEL had come up there was nothing they could do. G-D@m murphy law. Gets yah everytime, shakes&sputters at every stop light, but parked in front of Dealership ==> never even shivers...

Get them to look at the EGR valve, that is still my huntch.. Well that is that; at least that is what i am going to go tell them in a few weeks, when i go to talk to them about my car.
