Hi my name is will and i live in georgia and i have a 2001 mazda protege mp3. On december 23,2007 my engine started knockin. I know why it started knockin because it was low on oil. PLus its a long story i dont wanna get into. but what i like to know is what i need to do, can i just change my rod bearings and it will be ok or will i need a new engine.

thanks will

Welcome to the forums.

Knocking isn't caused because of low oil. Knocking is from pre-ignition of fuel in the combustion chamber. This could be because of higher compression, turbo, or really low octane fuel.

Are you sure it was a knock and not something else? Like broken internal components of the engine?

What i mean is a rod is knockin cuz i knew it was low on oil but i dont know what to do fix it my cousin told me before it worse i could just replace the rod bearings

Won't really know until you look. It all depends on how oil starved it was. My guess is #4. Its the furthest away from the pump. If a bearing spun, then your done. You'd be very lucky if you could slam a set of bearings in there and call it a day. Hopefully none of the rods will be blue.

yea i know i messed up right now im getting a new crank shaft cuz theres not much damage im takin it to the shop this week so its going to run me about 2100 dollars
