Engine jerking???

Okay, so I got an Injen cold air intake installed and about a week or two later I noticed the engine acting stupid when accelerating. Example....I'll do a 20 roll in first, hauls ass off, shift into second, and at about 5k-6k rpm the engine suddenly jerks and feels like it's dieing and turning back on, shift into 3rd, does it again, shift into forth, does it again, shift into fifth, just rolls right into it with no problems. It seems like it's only affecting gears 2-4...rarely does it **** up in fifth too. A friend told me the MAF could be reading things wrong. I also got some HID lights installed too....has the same problem with the light on or off. Also, my head unit quit working, well the display part, about a week ago too. What the **** is wrong with my car? I have a 2003.5 MSP by the way.

This is what I got installed by the way ->

Those sound like the comon issues that most MSP's have. The jerking "Could" be from a loose clamp after the MAF, the stereo is also a comon issue the band wears out on them. Take a look at the couplers on the MAF and at the turbo inlet, if any of those are loose or coming off you found your problem. Also you may want to look over the entire intercooler piping, it's pretty comon to crack or break the nipple that hold the By Pass Valve aka "Blow Off Valve". Good luck and welcome, there are stickies that have a lot of general knoledge and issues with this car read those it's very helpfull.

hehe most of that is foreign to me what you just said. I'm not exactly a car guy...I'm more of a computer guy, but I'll run this buy my car club friends and see if they can dumb it down for me, or even look at it all for me. Thanks for helping me :)

Sounds like fuel cut to me.. With the way he described it, its almost exactly like my car acted when it would hit fc..

Let me ask you this first.. Do you have a boost gauge?

Nope...I have no electronics and no mods have been done to the car other than the cold air intake and a MagnaFlow axel-back exhaust...the exhaust was on the car when I bought it.

Well, you should invest in one..

Anyways, fuel cut is when your ecu senses that your engine is getting too much air and it doesnt send fuel to the motor.. Would another way to describe it, be like a hiccup? If so, then Im pretty sure what you're experiencing is fc..

Yeah, I guess that description would work...how would I fix it though?

Well, I dont think its a normal thing to experience fc with just an intake and exhaust, but Im not sure since I dont have an aftermarket intake.. You should go get a boost gauge and some silicon hose and hook it up and see how much boost you're running.. You could be boosting too much which is caused from a bad wga..

Find the leak that's causing you to max out the MAf. The turbo amy be doing it's job and maxing out the MAF but the motor is not seeing all that air.

Is "wga" waste gate actuator???? (guessing here) And boost, I think is 9psi right now...and how exactly do I find this like? I don't know s*** about cars, especially this one.

Yea, forgot to list that it could be a leak too.. Also a bad wga would cause this, but cant be sure until you get a boost gauge..

Well....I don't exactly have the money right now for a boost gauge...so is there some free way to figure it out? Like....a diagnostic from AutoZone or something?

Yes, wga is wastegate actuator.. Your boost should be 6-7 psi..

A diagnostic from AZ isnt going to tell you that you have a bad wga or a vacuum leak somewhere.. Is your car throwing a cel?
