Thanks in advance for any advice!
I own a 2015 CX5 with 153k miles. Engine light came on. Auto Zone confirmed P011A on diagnostic. I took it to the dealer and after diagnostics dealer quoted $2400 for Heater Core replacement. HVAC was blowing cool air.
I couldn't afford the repair so drove back up car. I noticed afterwards coolant was empty in the reservoir (admittedly I have not been checking fluid level between dealer maintenance, which is 100% fail on me, I've since started checking weekly) . I changed the coolant with Peak Agent Green. During this process the battery died. I changed the battery and finished coolant replacement. Engine light hasn't come back on after a month and the HVAC is now blowing hot.
The dealer replaced the water pump at around 100k miles head gasket at 120k. They botched the first attempt of the head gasket replacement and engine oil was leaking/spilling everywhere. Had to have it towed back to the dealer and they appeared to fix the second time. I'm not mechanically inclined (mainly youtube videos for self-repair).
Any chance a simple coolant change could have fixed this or degraded battery was throwing false codes? If the light comes back on I'm going to try to swap the heater core swap myself via the youtube video I found on this forum (replacement through front passenger floor interior).
If you were in my shoes would you do anything else proactive (obviously start doing the minimum of checking fluids)? Hose replacement, flush, temperature check of heater core hoses?. I'm open to any suggestions you have. Again thank you in advance!
