Engagement rings?

You can always upgrade, but you dont you dont get a second chance at a first impression. She is just being nice by saying its ok to upgrade later. Deep down.. the girl wants a ring.. and when you think about it.. she's probably the best damn thing that ever happened to you.. and deserves a nice ring the first time

I gave my fiancee my Mom's ring-

My father-in-law machined our wedding rings in a lathe (2 hours beofre the wedding).

--It's all in how-- not in the how much.

^^^ Agreed ^^^

it also depends on the woman, some will be upset if its not a stunningly large rock, some dont care if its from a cracker jack box. its really just another chance to show her how well you know her, and how much you love her.

Is it crazy to be looking at these after 7-8 months?

My philosophy is that if you only get married once in your life, you shouldn't cut corners.

I personally refinanced my house to purchase my wife's engagement ring...a custom-made Jean Francois-Albert white gold ring with a .75ct D VS2 round cut in a tension setting, similar to the one below, but completely in white gold.

don't go cheap on the diamond. The difference in color between an I and a D diamond are evident.

my wife's diamond may not be a carat, but it hast more sparkle than an E-I diamond three times its size...

her wedding band matches the engagement ring, and my wedding band is a wider/larger version of her wedding band.

Get the nicest engagement ring you can afford. TAKE YOUR TIME! Know the 4 C's. Clarity, Carat, Cut and..........Cost. When I finally figured out the jeweler to go to I spent 3 hours there looking at their diamonds. Make sure they're unmounted if possible. The best 4 grand cash I've spent in my life.

right before I fell alseep last night I remember him asking if it was ok to post this b.c he wanted some opinions. So yeah its all good that I'm reading it and I know whats going on. All I don't want to know is the when and how part about him asking :)

i don't want anything to fancy as I am not like most typical girls. i mean i want something nice and something that is special, but nothing huge as far as the diamond. I like clean and simple things. something like this ,but maybe not as big a stone. I don't want anything too flashy, just something that is good quality. Remember quality over quanity.

i bought my wife a ring similiar in style to the one you shown...princess cut with sapphires on each side of the mount.

i really like the princess cut for some reason ,don't want anything else on it though ,just clean simple diamond

Just remeber, price changes with the cut, clarity, color, and carat.
SO with that said, a diamond with a VVSI clarity (very, very small inclusions) and G color (near colorless) won't look as good as a I1 (imperfect 1) with F color (colorless), the imperfections are invisable to the naked eye, the only time youd see it is under at least a 10X microscope, so the color and cut (as well as size) are more important, a diamond with some imperfections looks amazing when it is colorless, I know I looked and many different diamond, including the 2 list above and I went with the second, the diamond was $3,850 alone and the band (platnium w/ small diamonds all in it) was $1,995 so w/ tax and crap it came out to alot, BUT MOST IMPORTANT is that my fiancee still just stares at it like we just got it, it was the ring she always wanted, plus think about when your not around your lady, who is there to show that she is "taken care of?" the ring, so you want it to show......
just my .02 cents

I get all the stuff about the Cut, Clarity, Carat, but, if you both pick out what there going to look like, where is the surprise when he proposes???? you already know what it looks like... right??? since you went together.... or am i missing something here??

She won't see it until she actually gets it
All I wanted to know what style ring she wants and the size. We'll go look at them and stuff, but she won't know until I whip the ring out one day.

exactly, i told him would i would like, but he has to go about picking the actual ring out and i told him he has to suprise me when he actually asks me.
