End of the debate...

sweet!

LOL. Either that or earplugs. Hey... why don't you guys debate how long our P5s can sustain 130+. That would be interesting.

thats not a bad idea! i do know that when i was taking a trip up to Wisconsin with my bro, we did 120 pretty much the whole way, but 90 was the slowest i got down to on the highway and that is a 3 hour drive. engine bay was hot as hell!

i also was comming home from the quad cities did 120 3/4 of the way untill i got pulled over! i saw the cop and slowed to 90.... busted....(p5black) (owned)

Noise from what? I had my sunroof open, and my radio was not turned up all that much, did not notice anything much. BTW my car has a K&N air filter, and mazdaspeed exhaust but that is it.

Sorry you were pulled over. I can imagine how hard the car has to work. It is after all a 4 cylinder car. It must be great to have stretches of road to do sustained speeds. I was on the Autostrada A1 in Italy and they sustain a good 120 mph there. Haven't been able to do that around here. I worry enough about the folks in New Jersey with their future 50 mph EZPass lanes.

why would it work hard??? bmw 318 can eaasily reach 220kmh (136mph), and still have more in them so why wouldn't it be possible to make a 2.0 litre engine go harder than 130mph (209kmh)

damn all you biatches with open cars.... i still swear to this day i have a speed limiter.... the fact that the tach was bouncing around, the car wasn't moving, and it was making a noise like a shut down cylinder.... if you are really wanting to hear that noise, just forget to change gear, thats the noise my car makes @ 184kmh (115mph) i had a 1985 honda civic which could reach 190kmh, and still had some, but the vibnration from the wheel was unbearable.... the 323 is smooth all the way to the rev limiter...
FYI it takes about 40 seconds all up to get there (184)... i'm sure it could go harder...but its a stock shopping trolley atm thanks to you guys its getting fixed (THANK GOD FOR AMERICAN TUNERS!)

i am not even going to dignify that.... one would have to be a complete and utter MORON to put their car on blocks just to do that completely unsafe action. Starving Russian was with me when we did that, he took the pic. .

thanks. pWn3D

by the way, ever hear of parallax and shutter speed? why on earth would i stop by the side of the road to do something i can do driving?????

The disposable Kodak camera used for this shot had 400 speed film which is very good at reducing motion blur. I can say this being a certified film technician and manager of a store with a one hour lab. Any decent 400 and 800 speed film will eliminate a motion effect.

Been in the car at 130. Driven my own to 130. Before and after turbo. Several stupid and reckless times. I've been a poster on this board for over a year and have no reason to BS about this. Trust me, the car does it.

Unless you have more hp then the Protege 5 produces , you will never see 130mph. The car is drag limited and can't overcome it without more power. The car in the pic must have had some serious power bump to make it to that speed. END OF STORY!

maybe what we didn't see in the picture is, there's a viper infront towing the P5 :D

actually I think it's very possible to pull a 130 on our STOCK 2.0L P5. I did a 120mph on my 97 corolla base model (1.1 - 1.2L?? not sure) it was a 3-speed automatic (yes 3 speed, not a typo) the car was shaking so bad it wasn't funny, and yes it did take me about 2 min to get there with the help of a bridge, it doesn't have a tach, so I don't know if it reached its max rpm, the needle went way beyond the top marked speed of 110mph.

so I don't see why my 2.0L P5 can't do 130mph, although i havn't drove mine that fast yet.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned speedo error yet.

I wouldnt be surprised at all if the the error at that speed is more than 6 or 7 mph, maybe more. Heck, my speedo is off about 2 or 3 mph at at 30 mph indicated (based on the police radar displays that are out on the side of the road).

If you add in the error factor, that indicated 130mph will become much closer to the 118 or so Ive seen in car mags as a top speed for the P5.

Maybe I need to find a capable P5 and hook up my PDA Dyno directly to the OBD2 port and see what the difference is between accual readings, and the speedo.
