eMachines....POS!

Just got a new PC for Christmas, an eMachines PC actually. What a pile of monkey s***! (piss) The damn thing left 3 wonderful stains on my desktop while I was setting it up, the mouse and keyboard cables are too short they're only like 2 1/2 ft long, and the front cover of the CPU was loose when I got it. Maybe I'm just a bit anal about these things, I guess my expectations are just a bit high. Here's a copy of the email I sent them via their "General Feedback" automated email system and a picture of the stains on my desk now:

I just received an eMachines PC (Model: T2596 S/N AIV3A 405 00268) and have some issues with the lack of quality and usability issues.

First off, after setting the CPU on the surface of my office desk (for less than 24 hours) there are now 3 circular stains (black in color, I'd be happy to provide picture to you in addition to everyone else I know) where the rubber isolation pads set. This is highly disappointing. I would like to know what this material is made of and what it is secreting so that I may be able to properly remove the material. I suspect you will have no idea what the material might be and that as a result of this I will get to refinish my desktop for this $600 paperweight.

Secondly, upon removal of the unit from its shipping container, I noticed that the lower portion of the front face of the CPU was dislodged from its "locking" location. It appears that not only did your assembly technician miss this step, but your quality/inspection personnel (if any) also held this issue in low regard. Having clipped the face into its final assembly location, the front face is now loose. So, in addition to your poor manufacturing and inspection processes it appears that you have fitment issues as well with your case.

Thirdly, both the mouse and the keyboard cables were far too short to reach the CPU in my office setup. Now, of course you will say that there is no way for a company to plan for its consumers wide variety of office furniture configurations. But, I guess that adding an additional 12 inches to these cables (as most quality computer peripheral device manufacturers do) would certainly drive eMachines out of the competitive computer market.

At this point (24 hours after receiving your product) I already have no intention of purchasing your product in the future for myself or someone else. Conversely, I intend to go out of my way to ensure that none of my family, friends, co-workers, fellow internet forum members, church members, and anyone else who might be in the market for a computer, will have to subject themselves to issues similar to those discussed here as a result of your substandard product.

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding my concerns at blaxer@cox.net.

it's a 2.5GHz Celeron, 256MB DDR, CD-RW/DVD, 60GB HD. Haven't pulled the MB info yet.

So far it runs XP, which is a feat in itself. Graphics are ok, it's got an Intel Extreme AGP (64MB) card so it bogs down when there is a lot of screen motion.

It's a nice paperweight.

Exactly!

Can't b**** too much cause it was an Xmas present. But the damn desk cost me close to 8 bills. Maybe i'll try some 1500 grit on it and then try to match the stain.

yeah, e-machines suck. While at Illinois State University, I was an RCC. Basically the network computer guy. I had SO many people having problems with e-machine computers. I almost laughed when I came in the room and saw it. Believe it or not, one of my RCC co-workers even had an e-machine! She finally saved up enough money to buy a real computer.

But anyways, first thing it seems you'll want to do is buy a new video card.

Or buy a new computer - sell this one on E-Bay and say "it runs Windows XP like a dream!"

e-Machines SUCK! VERY limited upgradability, sorry prorietary boards, and quality that sux. In my experience with these, a home-built computer would be WAY better.

A friend of mine was pretty insistant on buying an emachines PC a few years ago because of the price. Told her not to because they were junk. Nothing more than a word processor and e-mailing machine at best. She wanted to go look at them at Best Buy so I humored her. Even the guy working at BB said they were junk. Pretty sad when the people paid to sell them tell you that.

My old roomate had one...it sucked. Sure it's just left over parts from other companies but my roomate's computer still had a floppy in the drive. To make it worse, he knows little about computers and booted the computer with the floppy in and guess what...it was a virus.

wow... someone made a "new discovery" that emachines are pieces of s****

btw, how can a CPU leave stains on a desk? I thought it could only leave scratches! oh wait... maybe he was talking about the computer case/enclosure which has rubber feet at the bottom that may leave strips of rubber on a table?

well first off that computer was on sale w/ a monitor at best buy for 399. It's actually not bad of a computer IF you use it for internet and lite stuff.

About the stains i really dont know. i work at the best buy in g'ville and we sold out of those in 1 day.

Blaxer: Whatever...you almost have a clue. I love your self-important attitude. You are the type of customer I say good riddens to. So what exactly do you actually know about eMachines as a company or how they compare to the other cookie cutter computer makers? eMachine has stood on the edge of Packard Bell doom and then pulled itself back up. If you actually knew anything you would know that eMachines are now the only PC to come with recovery CD's, with Sony, Compaq, HP you have to make your own. That's 1 DVD and 1 CD or 7 CDs. eMachines use standard size PSUs, standard MB, everything standard.

Have you ever considered that the PC may have been damaged in shipping? I have opened probably 100+ of the bundle PC and monitor package that you have and had problems with only 1.

Seems like most of the replies to this are peoples experiences on the old eMachines that were crap. Now they are decent.

Hate to see ignorance spread.

Well they have made a good way of improving there computers. T6000 is the only computer we sell at best buy wth the AMD 64 bit chip. Also comes with a maxtor 120gig 7ke RPM w/ 8 meg cache, 9600 ATI card and a MSI board...not bad for an emachine....

Best buy used to have an awesome brand(there own) VPR matrix. Came with Raid an a lot of other goodies...to bad hp and the other companies got piss at best buy for selling more vpr than compaqs....
