Had ours replaced at 35k too. It should be covered under the 3/36 bumper to bumper. My CX-7 has about 35k miles on it. The engine light came on and the dealer said the EGR valve needs to be replaced. It cost $900. Has anyone else had a problem with their EGR valve? (or how it gets damaged?) I took a look at the replaced part and it looks fine to me.

should be covered 8yrs/80k per EPA law or 5yr 60k powertrain. its part of emissions control and your engine.
Only certain parts of the emissions system is covered under that federal EPA law. Some states have emissions laws that supersede the federal EPA laws.
my understanding is that federal law is the minimum. if you want to go above and beyond then ok.....but not the other way around
ie cali and smog control
speed limits (if you want to go lower than ok, but cant go higher)
etc
either way its part of the engine and thus covered in the 5yr 60k
Your understanding is correct on the emissions thing. The problem with that is that the federal is much more lax than the California emissions act that several states follow. So if you are in one of the states that has adopted Cali's standards then you should be covered.
The EGR is not covered under powertrain warranty either. IT is not considered an internal lubricated part nor is it listed as an "other" item that is covered. Pretty crappy.
well that sucks......
I almost wouldn't go to the dealer for that fix. That seems excessive.
Yes definitely talk to the Mazda rep in this case. If no satisfaction with Mazda, then I'd check a good local independent.
