False Engine Valve Adjustment?

Hi all,

So I have a Mazda 2, 2003, 1.4, 80hp since 2018. At one point of the time she needed an engine repair, because the gasket blew. They said that they change all the steam seals, grind the gasket and also that they made an adjustment of the valves. After this, the car sounds louder, a bit like diesel, also it eats oil for breakfast and petrol consumation is higher. I still drive it, no problems, beside the mentioned ones, but I don't mind them that much.

However, I recently gave it to a mechanic for annual checking and he said that there's no way they made valve adjustments to this car, because the engine does not support that at all. So now I'm completely lost - is this the truth? Who's right - the first mechanics who claim they adjusted the valves or the second who claims that's impossible? I'm a bit worried if it indeed is impossible - why does it sound louder, why does it consume more oil and petrol, is it a more serious problem?

Thank you in advance for any answers!

I think that with all the problems you have, you got royally screwed by the shop. That being said, I believe your engine does require manual adjustment of the valves.

Yeah, it seems that way, thank you for the answer! I found the manual and translated from german to english (neither one is my native language) and it's written that it should be made every 100k km or 5 years + the exact adjusment measures. It seems my mechanic is incorrect.
