EGR Probs

:
1999 mazda protege
I have a question. Probably a stupid one. I had probs with my car, I could tell it was the EGR valve so i took it off to try to clean it. Anyway while i had it off i noticed alot off yellowish grease and water. Where did it come from, and how do i take care of it.

Member patsfan4life suggests a way to clean it through the intake without taking it apart & my "Check Engine Light". has not reapeared since I tried his good suggestion. I'm crossing my fingers but so far so good. Look for his post on "How To" on here if you want to give it a try.

this is the EGR valve? is this what is causing my check engine light? i didn't know that...

This is funny. everyone with a 99/00 protege are all starting to have this EGR valve issue. lol...looks like it is one of the first things to give problems with these cars cause **knock on wood** nothing else has gone wrong yet.

So, is the EGR valve the thing causing the check engine light to come on?
You have to check which code you have before jumping to conclusions. My code for EGR Excessive Air Flow was p0049 if I remember correctly. Bring to Advanced Auto & ask them to check your code. Then they can tell you what the code means. Good Luck.

just checked my code today and it came out something about my cadillac converter going bad...i forgot what exactly the code was but my cousin said something about my header causing that code. i didn't get this code until i got my OBX header. i think i am planning on putting my stock header back on and sell my header.
