Since I got my 2006 Mazda3 brand new, I've been looking for a way to reflash/adjust the ECU. I would really like to increase the speed limit from 118mph to 140mph, and maybe tweak a few other things. does anybody know of a reflash, or other means of doing this.

i am not to sure but i belive their isnt anything avable to do this yet for the na's their will be a programmer avabile soon for us na's

please search... there topic especially lately has been covered numerous times... as brian said there are no re-flashes or chips avialable for our car. you need to get a piggy back $650++ or standalone $1200ish + to do what you are asking...

Since you have a 2006 model you are out of luck when it comes to adjusting the speedlimit. A simple piggyback or standalone won't help you. Our speedlimit is controlled by the throttlebody closing up at a certain speed. There is one way around this but its becomes very expensive.

couldnt we just use a different TB? and a true standalone should override that, has anyone ever tried with a megasquirt or a hydra? i know the TB closes at 118, but what sends that signal to do so?

Thats part of the expensive route. You would have to switch to a cable throttle body set up, full standalone and change the pedal assembly. I know 1 member who has done this for his build but it cost him alot. The signal is in our stock ECUs that cause it to shut. Mines close at 110 instead of 118. If you have an 04 and 05 mz3 then you wouldn't have to worry about this. All you would need to do is bypass fuel cut.

That's no fun. I have an 06 as well but it's not important enough to spend that kind of money when you don't get to that speed enough to make it worth it.

Hmm. That sucks, I kind of thought it was the TB causing the limit issue, but I wasn't sure. Why couldn't it be the injectors instead. I know buddy club makes a drive by wire control, but I don't think it will fill the bill for what I want.

wait i have an 05, so wut dont i need to worry about?

lol you don't have to worry about the throttle choking you off at 118 its fuel cut in the earlier cars... whereas the later gens had the throttle close when they hit "X"mph

probably about the same, u can bypass the fuel cut with a piggyback though.

couldnt we rip a 04-05 TB off a 3 and throw it on an 08 though?

wouldn't the controls for the TB still be there in an 08? just changing the physical TB really wouldn't do much i don't think.

that depends, is it the ecu that sends a shut off signal to the TB or does the ecu send a speed signal to the TB and the TB has a chip in it to close at a set speed?

and if its the former, couldnt you swap ecu's? or are they vin sensitive

i would think the easiest way to do it would be to do it through the ECU its already TBW so at X speed causing it to shut would be a relative simple program. as far as swapping ECUs i have no idea what else is involved between years that would be affected
