this morning me and my dad put a new water heater in and i had to move my car for more space.

after i moved the car i pulled the ebrake as i always do and started working on the heater. the whole time the car was fine.

after we finished i went outside awhile later and my car had rolled down my slanted driveway and was in the middle of the street!!!!!

i checked my ebrake and it was pulled up all the way. my brake lines were fine and i had nothing leaking.

strange.......

happen to anyone else?

Yikes! That is not good. I would bring it to the dealer to have it checked out asap.

try tightening your ebrak if your car is out of warranty. -=( you pull the center consule and there should be a lil thing u use a allen wrench on to tighten it. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN IT HOWEVER. or if you car is in warranty.. go to the dealer. -=)

And make sure it's in gear when parking:p

oh, heh...had it in neutral...

but i dont want my car to be riding on first gear. everyone i know leaves it in neutral except on crazy hills. it shoulda been find, weird...

i just hope it doesn't happen again...

you should ALWAYS put in first egar because s*** like this happens, and it does NOT hurt the car to be left in first...

my ebrake is defunct, boguht new line, tuightened bolt, its the FORKS at the rear wheels that are locked halfway down, I can drive with my btrake on and it won't do anything...

I have a standard also and when I park it, I always use the parking brake but never leave it in gear.. 99% of the time it is parked on level ground.. Should I be leaving it in gear anyway??

I've always left it in neutral, then again we don't have any hills near me. I've even forgoten the e-brake in my civic once, in my driveway, it was fine the next morning. My dad drives me nuts when he takes my car, he parks it in first, then I start the car and stall the damn thing, because I never leave it in first! I hate that so much.

I totally agree with you ********.. I hate it when people leave the car in gear and I get into the car and start it and it jerks because it is in gear and i'm not used to that.. my Dad does it also..

As I understand it, most e-brakes are cable operated, so they are a separate, independent system. So even if your brake lines were fine and there was no leakage, you could still have something wrong with your emergency brake. You might want to test things out a bit more, and maybe take it in to get inspected.

well u can get biggg cinder blocks and keep them in ur trunk so when u park u take them out and put them behind ur rear tires

I hate it too! Every time I get into my car when it's in gear, I turn it on and let out the clutch... OUCH! I'm too used to leaving it in neutral, so it's habit...

Leaving it in gear is the best thing to do..

It is also helpful if some one wants to tow your car, so they can't drag it from the front, of course chances of that are slim..

It normally goes like this, if you are facing uphill, put it in first, and down hill, put it in reverse..

On level, 1st or reverse are good.

But it is better to leave it in gear, shouldn't rely on parking brake 100%, otherwise there would be no park on Auto's..

my ebrake cable is broken at the end and some dumbass tied the wire to the rear driver's side brake pad before I bought my car. Does anybody know of any site that sells the cable. I can't seem to find it anywhere. The dealer is probably too expensive and all I need is one. So if anybody has a good site, let me know. Thanks.

The brake cable can stretch over time, especially if you yank it as hard as you can every time you park it. Mine was stretched enough that pulling the brake all the way would barely apply any brake pressure at all. I tightened mine recently and it is working great. Try tightening it a few turns until it is sensitive enough to keep the car steady after a few clicks up. If you tighten too much you will be riding with you rear brake on constantly and burn up your pads though.
