e-brake light going on and off

Get the mazda6 upgrade. Its like $400 with everything. And all you gotta do is slap it on. lol

So I took a look at the brake fluid reservoir...it's at least 1cm above the minimum line. I added some in anyway, just in case. I looked at where I usually park...there's some kinda oil smudge stain there. I guess it's my rear drivers side leaking. Crap.

Weird thing is if I sit there and pump my brakes...the light doesn't turn on. It's only when I press the brakes when I'm trying to slow down that it comes on. Blah

It's not weird... you say the fluid was just above the minimum, when you pump the brakes at a stand still then the fluid just sits there doing nothing.
But when you are driving and apply the brakes, or accelerate from a stop, then the fluid moves to one side and your brake light comes on or off.
Filling it to the top as you did, should prevent the light from going on and off all the time.

is there any harm in replacing just one caliper? one mechanic was totally okay with replacing just one...the other said for safety he wants to replace both. the place okay with replacing just one is charging ~$330 (new caliper). the other place is charging ~$200 if he's replacing just one caliper (he also says new calipers are not available...only rebuilt ones. other more expensive place says new calipers are available...wtf?)

Replace only the one bad one. Buy the used P5 caliper off the forum (or a reman one) and have them install it. Ensure they inpsect and properly lube both calipers.

Good-to-go!

I had the same problems with both of my rear calipers. Its a very easy do it yourself they were under 100 a piece
