okay so i dont have a msp, but i have turbod p5 and im Hopefully gonna dyno it on sat (cross your fingers) and i was just wondering what gear ppl run there msp's in to get best numbers on the dyno. I believe 4th, but ive heard 3rd as well.... i tried a search and got skank for results. Also anything i should tell the guy thats gonna be driving my car while its on the dyno? Like what rpm to stop and push in the clutch?

3rd gear, rev to 6500rpms.

I did a 3rd and 4th gear pull back to back with no change, so now I always use 3rd gear since its less stress on the motor.

probabyly 3rd gear would be the strongest as i know for a msp...probably the same for a p5....are you dynoing your car at ROCK FALLS on saturday?

4th gear will be the most accurate

you want to dyno in the gear that will give the least amount of drivetrain loss, which usually ends up around 1:1 on the gearbox. in the protege, thats 4th.

I had mine done in third also. I don't know if they're supposed to stop at a certain RPM but I know every pull they did mine they just let it hit the rev limiter.

isnt 3rd just under 1:1 and 4th is just over 1:1, but i also did 3rd and 4th and there where no differences at all in my numbers and rev limiter FTW i love hitting that sob in 1st gear lol.

Back when i first got the turbo done (see first line in sig) I went to a dyno and did three pulls - two in 4th and one in 3rd and there was essentially no difference. This was on a dynojet (all my dynos were) BTW. Because there was no difference I've always dyno'd in 3rd just to put less stress on the engine and transmission.

If tuning, another reason to do 4th is like my situation doing most of my tuning for high boost in 3rd since I can't really redline 4th to 125mph in many places. So I was running out of fuel by the top of 4th and try adding fuel. Then I'm going rich in 3rd and leaning out 4th. Took me a little while to figure this out since I didn't think I'd be close to maxing out my 565's!!

alright guys thanks a lot, my plan is 3rd gear and 6500 rpms. Although i just had surgery this morning, and even though the car should be done at pg in time for the dyno at nagel autobody 3min from my house ;) i dont think i will be able to pick the car up or drive while im on 5mg of Hydrocodone/500mg of apa....dang it!
