dunflops

took the p5 for a pretty hard drive today on some tight twisties (ya know gotta try out new tires sooner or later right) well of course i have s*** dunflops on the front...i lost traction around EVERYTHING, the kumhos i had held better than these. i was only goin about 60 or 65 and trail braking, and everytime i hit the gas the wheels would spin. if i turned the wheel hard the front end would slide out...so yea...AVOID DUNLOPS! even though im sure everybody knows this...but damn...ill never get them again, ill spend the extra 200 for some michilins or somethin

The factory Dunflops are a seriously ****** up tire in anything but straight, flat, dry roads. And even they they suck for general principal.

I have Kumho 711's, and they handle really well. Quieter than my yokohama avs es 100's, and so far as showing signs outlasting them!

Get rid of your Dunflops, for the love of God!

I only have 12k on my stock tires before I installed new tires and wheels and I can't bring myself to put them back on. Maybe I'll do a few smokey burnouts to get my money's worth :p

tires that come OE on cars are tuned by tire manufacturers for tread life and gas mileage, with a little performance thrown in.

just because the dunlops that came OE weren't great doesn't mean that the brand isn't good...it just means Mazda and Dunlop went with a more "economy" tire that isn't a good match for us performance drivers.

Wow, it's hard to believe anyone still has those OEM Dunlops!
Mine ran out of tread, thankfully, after about 25k miles.

sadly, i still have mine. alot of highway driving has kept them in decent condition. but for those people in the austin area, my dunlops failed me on a twisty road here in central texas, lime creek. my tires failed me on a turn and i slid off the road. so serious damage. but yeah, the stock dunlops do suck

LOL, gone, or worn out, you crazy rubber-burner.

Well, the fronts got flat-spotted at 4K miles or so when I had to slam on the brakes, and slid for about 5 feet. I rotated them to the back , and got another 4K miles before the wear was too great, and the thought of replacing body panels after hydroplaning off the road in a typical Florida rainstorm made me realize I needed to get rid of them. No burnouts, just junk tires.

I did sell the 2 non-flatspotted tires to other forum members for cheap, who needed cheap tires until real ones could be afforded.

i took a 90 degree turn at around 15 miles an hour, slightly damp roads, and almost understeered into a curb. this is with the 21.5 mm awr bar and full msp suspension. only thing that saved me is that i dont drive like aMaff ;)

flatspotting due to skidding is something that will happen to any tire. my proxes4's are flatspotted from an emergency stop.

Replaced mine after about 12k miles... with the fronts almost bald. I put on some Yokohama AVID V4S tires, which have much better tread-life and are better all around. They are my current all-season tire, but are a bit limited for winter performance though. So I got the Dunlop WinterSport M3 for winter driving and they rock. They make a great winter tire, and still keep some feel of a sports tire. I just don't see myself getting stuck in the snow with them... ever. They dig in snow well and always maintain at least some traction on ice, although not as much as I would like. Plus they have pretty good treadwear, probably better than the stock tires :) It's sad if a winter tire has better treadwear than an all-season...

Also, I was thinking of getting the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx for 3-season driving. However, I want to wait until I wear out my Yokohama's first, but that might take another 2 to 3 years... or the introduction of a turbo :)

Anyway, Dunlops are bad. Every manufacture has good tires and cheap tires. Most cars come with the cheap tires. If you don't know already, take a look at http://www.tirerack.com/. They have lots of reviews for all categories of tires.

Yup. But the fishtailing on my way home from the dealer after purchasing the car was a sign they were crap. 27 miles on the car, and already sliding around.

They were pretty worn from regular driving after only 8K. Heck , my yokohamas lasted 24K miles before they were bald. And I never had a problem with them losing traction until then.

Oh, losing it on lime creek SUCKS.

so when it sounds like the tire/wheel is vibrating, is it due to flat spotting and not from unbalanced or unaligned ones

If you are driving in a straight line and your steering wheel is vibrating, that is probably due to unbalanced tires. If it is doing it in a hard turn it is because the wheel is slipping.

EDIT: Unless you hear that when you're accelerating from a dead stop...that's wheel hop.

It might be one of the three. i just knew they flat spotted. i could feel it. unbalanced tires feel the same, pretty much.
