Yep. And there's a mild steel specification too I'd bet. Mild steel can be MIG welded effectively, 4130 should be TIG'd. Mild steel has a lower carbon content, making it far less prone to cracking. In terms of crash safety the added strength doesn't buy you anything. In terms of chassis stiffness they will be the same; or better if the rules spec a thicker mild steel sidewall.

You'll have to argue that with them then. I can't sway anyone. We specialize in Tig'ing here.

My biggest concern is the kinks in the bends. It looks like he started to bend it too soon 3 times then he got it on the fourth. The wall is pretty much compromised in those corners. Isn't that old saying if you want something done right you have to do it yourself? I think my boss may have to step in.

Virtually the same bender I've used for 4130 tubes, definitely user error. Either picking the wrong die or doing something else badly.

Sadly, probably both. Good thing we don't do this quality work for our real work :/
