Has anyone done or tried a mod to light up the Door lock button on our cars? It's almost impossible to find it quickly in the dark which gets pretty annoying. Anyone?

Well I guess I'll ask a simple question first... does your door lock button HAVE a light on it? Is mine broke or is there no light?

Yeah I've thought about this before actually.

Maybe you could put an led inside the switch housing but outside the switch itself. That way it would kind of light up the gap between the switch and the switch plate in a ring. Dunno if that makes sense to anyone but I may try this as well.

Good so I'm not crazy (at least not completely)... the only thing is would we have to do additional wiring so that the light goes on only when the lights are on? Please, someone try it...

wouldnt be all that hard to do. all youd have to do is go buy a led light (like one for a car alarm) and drill a small hole wherever u wanted it and take off the door panel of course and then run some 18 gauge power wire through the existing wire sleve and then drill a hole in your fire wall and then run it to your headlights and splice the main power wire to your head light and wire it in and heat wrap it and electrical tape it and your done. might have to ground out the led light but all youd have to do is find a screw to hook it on to. cant be to hard.

Why not just tap the power off the already illuminated switches in the drivers door?

EDIT: Maybe I am smoking something, the house alarm is on and I dont feel like turning it off just to go check the car. I think the "AUTO" switch is always illuminated, or maybe just when the headlights are on.

taping into the auto light switch on the windows might work as well. i didnt think about that. i think tomorrow sometime i might try this and i will try both the window switch and the headlights. hopfully the window will work

ill do it just cause i will be board. ive always been really good at electrical work in cars. ive helped friends wire in horns. neons, fuse boxes, window regulators in my old 01 VW. lots of things so it wont be to hard. will take me maybe an hour tops.

i have a little mini mag on my key chain that seems to work great plus no messing anything up or making permanent mistakes

Wow, that doesn't sound hard at all guys! What kind of light would you all get to iluminate the switch?

if you hook up the led to the "Auto" light we have for the front driver window, you would have that always on.
it should be simple and striaght wire
the only complication i would see in it is the following.
1. if the light does not go through it
2. how to hold the led in place inside the car panel

otherwise, i should be a striaght forward tap from the "auto" light and just put it on the door lock switch

well, if it doesn't go through it, then maybe it will still iluminate on the outside the button all the way around? As long as I can see where it's at, then I'm happy. I hate having friends lock their doors and expect me to unlock them quickly, it sucks... lol

I thought the auto light is always on cause of the window mod. I did it and mines always on. Dont remember what it use to do. While we're at it, how bout a switch on teh passenger side door?

i don't think anybody will do that mod anytime soon
just because there is no way "easy" to do it
and nobody wants to take the risk unless you can replace the interior.
i would do it, but i don't have the funds/time/equipment to do it

but, yes, would somebody please do it

Why do you think it will be so hard? I think all it would take is putting a LED light behind the switch and tapped into the "AUTO" button...

taking a closer inspection of the "lock" printing on the door
it is not "engraved" like the "Auto" button.

but, it is like written on it.
what i mean, is that parts of the letters now in the "lock" part is scratched, thus, light could not go through, or could it?

what do you think

about the splicing and joining with the "auto" button, it is easy, as you said, but i don't like taking chances.

I already messed up my cluster and that is enough
lol
