So prior to changing my oil on my own for the first time, I was flipping through the owners manual and noticed it stated you could use either 10W 30 or 5W 30. I went with 10W 30 for the mere sake the my conscience told me to. I was wondering what everyone else used and if anyone could explain the significance of the numbering system.

I saw a 10W 40 and that blew my mind....

Mobil1 5w30 Synthetic is good for summer but i think i will use 0w30 for winter

I used to use 10W30 synthetic blend and recently changed to 5W30 Mobil1 synthetic...omg..I can really feel the difference!!!

I just put in 10W30 for the summer. In the winter I'll use 5W30.

I think the manual states officially that with a filter change the oil capacity is something like 3.7 quarts.

Is it better to use a lower weight in the summer, and even lower in the winter?

I live in Ky, so the winters are usually in the 20's and it'll drop into the teens. During the summer, its gets fairly warm 80' and 90's and will occasionally break 100.

Yep. 3.7 Quarts of oil.

I changed my oil for the first time on my own the other day. In three days I've noticed 3-4 drips of oil in various parking locations. Does anyone think this is an issue, or is it just the oil that got on my engine from taking the filter off?

I've been checking my oil level and it's not dropping.

Since it has affected "various parking locations", it is more than what was left from the oil change. It's most likely either the filter or the drain plug. Did you use a new washer on the plug? Did you lube the seal on the filter? It also a good idea to wipe down the area after you're done with the oil change.

On my first oil change I read the instructions on the box of the filter and it said to back the filter off a 1/4 turn. I did that and now I have spots on my driveway. Now I put the filter on tight side of hand-tight.
