Just got grades for the semester, 2.75 GPA. Thats about my cumm too.
I am a finance major and senior in college, should I be freaking out about getting a good job with that kind of gpa?

What kind of grades did you guys have?

Or should I be asking people on the Ferrari boards?

Thats everything. Problem is, I changed majors so much and schools once and lost all my good freshman year grades because the actual grades don't transfer, just the course.

GPA matters when getting selected for your first job (so you may have a harder time than say a 4.0 student getting your initial job). After that you just go off your resume and the fact that you have a degree (so make a good impression at your first job). Most places want you to have a degree, but they care more if you can do the job than take a test. I was trying to get a 4.0 in Electrical Engineering when I started, but after a few semesters that goal is out the window. The military is pushing me through in three years, so taking 20+ credits a semester of EE classes I would have to be a machine to get perfect grades.

yeah, its just that initial job that I am worried about. I want to work for a major firm and not some ma and pa place.

I'm a management major and a Junior, my GPA is about the same. Did you have that gpa consistently or one bad semester?

I had one really bad semester, got a 1.7, but luckily the rest have been pretty good.

Honestly, it seems like today a regular bachelors is what a high school degree was way back. Only one of my friends who has graduated actually has a job, and even then, its not the best. Thats why im going to do a masters program, although i know not everyone can, it might be a good idea.

as long as you arent going to a grad school (most want a 3.0) its not going to be a big deal.

Join the military. Maybe you can even get commissioned as an officer. Ex-military peeps get first dibs on govornment jobs and other jobs. That's a big bullet on the resume now.

Mine are decently consistant. 2.4-3.2 range.

Damn, that sucks....no plans for grad school right out but was looking to go back in 5 years or so.

Haha, military. Sorry, its not for me. Its a good suggestion, but I'd sooner become a homeless guy.

That's funny, because I have an Associates and make a good living, better than most of the 4-year college grads that I know, s*** I was offered a 100-250K per year job... I think maybe people just realize that there is more to success than a degree.

However you manage it, if you're a fast learner and willing to work hard, you can get good jobs, with or without excellent grades. You just probably won't be a doctor or a lawyer... but I could be mistaken.

Oh I believe you. I never said that finding a good job is impossible or that making a good living is going to be difficult with a bachelors. I am just saying what is the situation for people i know.

My dad has a bachelors and came to the States and learned english while in college. Now he owns 6 shoe stores and a tour agency and has the money to do whatever he wants.....too bad he doesn't want to build a huge garage like our friend Bruce

I graduated w/ a 2.93 in 2001 and had 2 internships and some other work experience under my belt. I had to do a long-term temp position after I graduated for 9 months, then got my current position as a Federal contractor. I also plastered my resume everywhere and started job hunting long before I graduated. Contracting might be something to look into if you have experience in your field.
