All factory turbo charged cars run rich from the factory. They do that because they cannot 100% guarantee the same boost (in psi) in every car. Your boost in controlled by the computer and MAF, but in reality is really dependent on a couple of vacuum hoses. It is better to run rich than to run lean, and it also gives you some room to tune, push a couple more PSI and grab an extra 15-30 horses without messing with injector duty cycles, flow rates, or fuel pumps. A/F ratio gauges are sometimes used during this tuning process, but are really more of an entertaining thing to look at rather than a tool. Keep in mind though that the more you push the limits of your stock fuel system, the more you may want to (eventually need to ) switch to premium unleaded gas.
