Dirty, dirty tailpipes...

Oh yeah...definitely very sooty...the whole back end basically gets blasted after a week of driving it hard. Lookin' fwd to leaning that out a bit as well ;)

Yeah, i cleaned mine off of my 2010 MS3 at about 500 miles and now at almost 900 they are covered again. It looks to almost be a losing battle lol. I don't remember the RX-8 and the MS6 being near this soiled when I owned them.

Hi everyone! if I may recal didn,t Mazda dealer,s send out a recall about

All factory turbo charged cars run rich from the factory. They do that because they cannot 100% guarantee the same boost (in psi) in every car. Your boost in controlled by the computer and MAF, but in reality is really dependent on a couple of vacuum hoses. It is better to run rich than to run lean, and it also gives you some room to tune, push a couple more PSI and grab an extra 15-30 horses without messing with injector duty cycles, flow rates, or fuel pumps. A/F ratio gauges are sometimes used during this tuning process, but are really more of an entertaining thing to look at rather than a tool. Keep in mind though that the more you push the limits of your stock fuel system, the more you may want to (eventually need to ) switch to premium unleaded gas.

As opposed to...the premium gas you're already supposed to be running?

91 and above reads the manual...

My fault, sorry fellas. I was told by the salesman that you could use regular unleaded. I guess I should have done more research before opening my mouth. Sorry. (bang)

I'd go back to your dealership and slap that salesman in the mouth. (stfu)

And then tell his sales manager that he's costing them warranty claims because he's trying to keep from scaring people off of the higher gas prices. This isn't something that's 'just recommended,' for turbocharged cars...the crossover point from stoich to rich on the 2010 from the factory isn't until the car is at nearly 3600rpm. Run unleaded regular and it's not a question of whether it'll knock - it's a question of what the count is.

And the soot generator is certainly at full tilt on these 2010 Speed3's - on our dyno from the factory they were 10:1 AFR for the entire powerband over 4300rpm if I recall correctly. Add an intake and decrease some of the factory backpressure and it'll drop to 11.0:1 and then hit 10:1 at about 5300rpm instead. But we still have black tailpipes. That's life. It's your turbo badge until you can retune.

sounds like your salesman is a ruhtard. any high compression engine is going to take higher grade fuel for the higher burning temps. smack him once for me and once for yourself. anything after that is a bonus for all.

ugh. I can't stand salesmen who'll say absolutely anything to move a car. And this is under the assumption that he even knows he's lying.

However, a lie that stupid just might possibly come from somebody who honestly doesn't know the first thing about a turbocharged car.

At any rate, that dealership is either failing, or failing with flying colors. I wouldn't go back there to even ask for directions.

I will admit that during the break-in time, the pipes got a LOT more messy then they have in the last 500 miles. They barely even needed dusted off recently. Maybe it's just the intial break-in time when it runs so rich?
