I know its been answered before but I couldnt find it amongst all the rubbish.

Q: Is there any difference between a Protege spring and a Protege 5 spring? If so, what is it?

The fronts are the same but the rears on the 5 are a little stiffer to handle the extra weight on the rear of the hatch .

The thing is, I'm looking at getting Sprint springs for my MSP, but the ones for the regualar Protege are a 2.0 drop up front and a 1.4 in the rear.

If you get the P5 springs, than its a 2.0 drop all around. I'm wondering if it being more stiff in the rear will effect me out on the AutoX course in a bad way.

^^get Goldlines, i went from sprints to goldline and love it. never did drop the back enough. goldlines have a perfect, level drop(2thumbs)

No such thing as "too stiff in the rear" for auto-x, especially in front-wheel-drive cars. Getting the car to rotate/turn-in is the fast way around the cones. Many auto-xers go to a bigger sway-bar in the rear only for just this reason. (Well, OK, also because changing the front sway-bar is a total PITA!) You can go too stiff and end up with a car that is "twitchy" on the public roads at higher speeds, but still, nearly nothing will eliminate the FWD tendency to push under throttle exiting corners. And remember, if the tail starts to come around, FLOOR IT.
