Yup, Mazda MX-6 based.
Ford actually owns controlling interest in a lot of companies, including Mazda, Jaguar, Volvo, Aston Martin, and Land Rover.

yeah....one time i was over at my friend's house and one of her brothers friends called my p5 a "front wheel drive peice of s***". the stupid thing about it is he was sitting in a probe (which as we all know is a front-wheel drive mazda).......what a retard.

heh, whatta dumbass. He probably thinks the probe is RWD with a Duratec 2.5L V6. lol

The actual 5.0 Miata was a kit out several years ago. It is not a direct bolt in, there are many modification that have to be done to the car to accept the motor.

As for Mazda, you are incorrect that Japan is an underpaid place of economics. The yen was stronger for a long period of time over the american dollar. Ford only has a controlling interest in Mazda they do not own 100% of the company. On the present Protege they do not have anything that can be stated as "Made by Ford". In two years this might be different with the new line up of Protege's coming. There has been rumors that it will be on the same frame as the Focus and a Volvo (Is Scandinavia in an underpaid place of economics?).

Also Kia is made in South Korea, not Japan.

Just had to correct a couple of misleading statements there.

Mike

Kia is actually owned by Hyundia, who also happens to own the rights to the new Lotus Elan. At one point ford did outsource a car from Kia, it was the Festiva. During the late 80's-early 90's Ford did have a few cars that were actually powered by Mazda drivetrains, Escort and Probe being the two best known ones. Same as the Mazda trucks were actually all powered by Ford drivetrains. It's a lot cheaper to have cross platform set-up done. Just take a look atthe new Land Rover Freelander and tell me that it doesn't look like a Ford Escape/ Mazda Tribute?

i did notice that huge ugly plastic front valance on the new freelander looked similar to the escape's....

Actually, the Land Rover Freelander has been out for several years in Europe. Any similarity between the Escape/Tribute and the Freelander has more to do with copy-cat styling than corporate platform sharing.

Hey I knew that... My 94 PGT needed so many parts that I bought MX-6 rear calipers! lol.
Are you gonna trade the mustang/firebird/crx hybrid/semi truck killing Probe in for a MP5?
(The movies you posted on probetalk kicked ass). Anyways, good luck with the MP5 if you get one. I have had mine for 4 days now and am really enjoying it!

Yup, the Freelander is not associated with the Escape. I just read that Callaway is tuning a high performance model, and Callaway usually tunes GM products. High performance Stupid Utility Vehicles....errrr, I HATE SUV's! There, I had to vent.

yeah, after i saw the commercial for the freelander again i realized that its not the same plastic piece...thanks for straightening that out for me...

Thanks! I wish my video server wouldn't have crashed... now I have nowhere to post all my vids. :( oh well.

Well, i'm gonna try to make my PGT last until the 2004 Version of the Protege5 comes out... I hear they are giving it a 2.3L with some more power.... that should be worth the wait. :)

Later!!

Did you know that when the probe came out it was going to replace the mustang!
