I am lookin into buying this hood and am wondering if anyone has this one or even the plain CF DGM hood. Is it made of good quality?

Also, I'm gonna guess that this type of ""cold air" intake would be alot better than an Injen or MHP CAI...Am I Right/Wrong?

Last question...I worry that 3 years down the road when i recover from my financial slum(ever since I bought my Mp3 my money has been flyin) that I might spring for a turbo...I kinda wanted to wait to get one until they were more develeoped and tested...I don't want this 1k hood to go to waste...Could there be any use of the opening in the hood with a turbo\IC combo? (thought) I was thinking maygbe ducted the cold air onto the turbo for cooling or something or would it just be a waste..I know someone on here has a vented hood with a turbo (sweet freakin hood I might add) So mayvbe it does work...Any Input is welcome boys!

Do a search and I'm sure you'll find all the info you're looking for.RODSCALIP4's Profile As far as the CAI's go, you'll be limited to the Injen since MHP doesn't make their intake anymore. Or you could try to get one from someone who doesn't want theirs. Good luck bro

I've had this hood on my ride. Its outstanding. You really notice the difference. The intake is so so loud when you go at full throttle. Dg actually had it dynoe'd and it gained 7 hp over stock. They also tested the AEM intake alobe and it lost 2 hp over stock.

I seriously doubt the AEM lost 2hp over stock. Its physically impossible to lose horsepower when you allow more air in. And this "but the AEM gets hot engine air" BS has GOT to stop. My AEM is lukewarm after an hour of driving, the filter sits next to an air scoop directly from the ground that brings in fresh outside air.

Yeah, I own an AEM, and I definitely notice a very nice jump off the line, and a throaty roar. I find those results totally off the wall. Injen themselves can only claim 4-5whp off of their intake, and that is after adjusting it for the dyno. The one they dynoed IS NOT the same one hundreds of people have bought. I'd stay away from Injen and their shady practices unless they plan on sending the larger secondary pipes to everybody who already purchased one...

We're actually talking to DG about making a proper turbo version of that hood. It's in the early stages, but that scoop is in just the right place :) Add in a cold air box and it should work quite nicely.

Chris, what's the temperature of your intake air when you're sitting at a light? That's where you're really going to notice the effects of hot air. Also, a big filter does not guarantee "more air". It simply means there's more filtration area. The design of the actual intake will have an effect. I haven't seen an AEM for the Protege in person, but the ones I've seen for the Miata are simply a big filter.

Keith,
As expected, I cannot answer that question. I'm just getting sick of people saying the Injen is soooo much better than the AEM because of the location of the filter. And this loss of 2HP is just plain misleading. A few people here have already dynoed with about 2-4whp increase over stock from the AEM. The Injen units were about the same, except for the ones with the larger secondary pipe. Maybe I'm just being stubborn because I actually own the AEM. If Injen offered the improved intake I might consider them. But the point is moot since I am still leaning towards turbo in a year or so.

The AEM is easy to install, sounds awesome, and gives a noticeable improvement in the butt dyno for what thats worth. Lets just leave it at that. :)

what we all really need is for rishie to import the auto exe intake for our cars. i really want to go with Japanese parts whenever i can. i am thinking of selling my exhaust and springs and going with jic magic stuff. i would buy the exe stuff if i could get it.

hmmm

SO if I did decide to buy the hood and eventually did switch to turbo, I could make some sort of custom ducting to place the air..I'd say I would just get the turbo hood, but I doubt I'm gettin a turbo for another 1 or 2 years (unless I hit the lotto)..

As far as the intakes go, I'm sure both types have an amount in performance increase..I think it would be stupid to say a standard CAI would take in colder air than a vented hood, since one is taking air from the engine compartment and one from the outside of the car..

Its funny...I look at the price of the non-vented and the vented in comparison and it makes me wanna buy the non-vented and cut a hole in it :-)

I dont think dyno charts lie. Ill get them to give me the dynos and Ill post them. BTW the Ram Air hood uses the AEM intake.
