Demio 2002 - a few questions

Hi all

Recently bought a Japanese import Mazda Demio 2002 1.5l 5-spd manual, and I
really enjoy this little car, it's lively and the handling is good compared to my other junkers I had before. Put some fun back into my town driving again.. (lol2)

I have a few questions if anyone can assist. Most of these imports are either auto or 1.3l manuals here in NZ, so it's difficult to find another one to compare.

1) Clutch - I found this fairly heavy by Mazda standards, with saying that I am comparing to my last Mazda 323s (1.5 and 1.3) I owned which were around the early 90s. I find it heavier than my Toyota 3L Diesel Surf, and also not as direct as I got to know Japanese car clutches tend to be, it's more like a BMW of VW long throw pedal action. Is this normal?

2) Gear change - not bad, but a bit chunky (not light) compared to other manual Japanese cars I have driven in the last 20 years or so. Is this also normal for this model?

3) How do I flip over the rear seat into the vertical position? I can drop the 2 back rests forward, and there is supposed to be a lever or something in the middle between the 2 back rests which you pull up, but all I see is a hole in a plastic cover, nothing to tug on. Perhaps something was broken off where this hole now exists?

4) The driver side electric window will act up at times. When the window is open (all the way or partially) and I toggle to close it, then sometimes it will play yo-yo with me, it will stop on the way up and go all the way down again. Anybody else experienced this too, and was there a solution?

Any suggestions and help will be appreciated.

Cheers
Chris

Will answer some of my own Q's.

1) Clutch - still not happy with it, I suspect the pressure plate may be on it's way. Not slipping quite yet, but not as grippy as I would expect. Burning the clutch smells like fish, wonder if they used recycled whale blubber to make the clutch plate... lol
2) Gear change - seems to be normal for this car. Chunky, but at least positive.
3) Rear seat flip - yip, was a broken off handle. I managed to get to it with much difficulty and made my own pulling mechanism.
4) Window - no solution
5) Water leak in boot - worn foam seal between taillights and body, removed taillights and added some silicon sealant to seal.
