Defective Interior Metallic Door Handle

Speaking of defective cheap parts, after a year of ownership my door panel has developed a divet in it where I set my arm on the window sill when I drive. I have had this happen before, but normally it takes like six years.

I'm in the plastics industry, and can tell you that the good plastic is slowly being replaced by the cheapest crap that the cheapest industry will produce in Asia (which is usually polypropylene or ABS). Not trashing Asia, it's just that the cost to produce is many folds cheaper than here. The problems is, many times they are not retooling correctly, which means they may not be adding enough stiffening ribs to the cheap parts. Hence the divet in your part.

It's to the point that You have to go more high end luxury vehicles to retain the good plastic, it's not just Mazda that is doing this. Ah well, guess they have to please the stockholders...

damn, we had an 01 civic that had the most of the chrome peeling off of the inside door handle only about 60K miles on that badboy... That s*** is sharp!!

Long time lurker, 1st time poster.
Brought the CX9 in for warranty stuff today, and had the scratches that many of you mentioned. However, the dealer (Westchester Mazda, NY) only wants to replace the side that's actually scratched up. They even claim that some discoloration on the passenger side isn't bad enough to warrant a replacement.

WTH man? Anyone else have a similar problem? Don't you think that if the paint is faulty to begin with that all the affected parts should be replaced?

I bought her at Wayne Mazda, NJ but live much closer to Westchester Mazda. Any recommendations? Thanks.

PS- I also brought her in because my windshield fluid wasn't spraying. Turns out a mouse made a home in the fenderwall and elected to eat through the hose. Stupid mouse cost me $150!

I bought mine from Ramsey Mazda in Ramsey NJ. I called them up and told them I had the problem on both sides and new there was a TSB for the issue. They ordered the parts for me without having me come in first so that they can could inspect it first.

Had them both replaced yesterday.

Good point. I'll just call up the dealer and talk to the salesman I got it from. I'll post an update later.

Scratch up the other one and bring it back. This repair costs them $0 out of their pocket and all the work to swap them out takes less than 5 minutes, which they bill to Mazda USA. The service department is a different cost center than the sales department. Complain to your sales department about the poor service.

I only had my front ones scratched, but the dealer replaced all 4 pieces. It's a known defect by Mazda. This should be replaced without any issue.

Update: Westchester Mazda still stuck by their -only replace the affected armrest- policy, so I called up Wayne. Talked to my salesman, and then to a service rep, and he promptly ordered 4 new armrests for me. Huge plus since it only necessitates one trip into NJ.

For those who have this issue, DO NOT SETTLE FOR LESS THAN 1 ARMREST! Hope this helps.

Mine too....will be going in later this week to get the panels replaced. I am glad they are making good on this problem.

This TSB does not appear to cover the 07 CX-9's. I have an 07 and driven minimally but still showing similar signs. Anyone challenge this on an 07?

When I bought my 08 GT last December, the dealer was aware of the defective metal-looking door trim/handle. They then replaced these metal-looking trim items. SOO...it is a known problem that Mazda will fix...they do know about it...maybe your dealer just sort of plays a bit unaware.

Hello,

I have the same issue with my CX-9 on the drivers side door. I went to the dealer this morning to get it looked at and they confirmed that they will replace it under the warranty.

I am satisfied with Mazda canadas service.

Interesting enough mine doesn`t have this issue.
And it is an 08.

It helps that not a careless person seats in the passenger seat.
And a man drives the car.

Fortunately dealers took care of the issue.

Dealer balking on repair

Noticed this issue a few months ago on my '08 GT. Called the dealer for to schedule a regular oil change and mentioned the issue with the silver arm rests. Told him that I found the TSB online and that my VIN was within the affected range. He said that he was "not aware of a TSB" on this issue, and that his manager had instructed him to stop replacing them some time back. Although I was able to locate/print the TSB from links in this forum, I was unable to find it on other sites, such as Edmunds.com:

http://www.edmunds.com/maintenance/...ileage=18,000&zip=55426&type=tsb&serviceType=

Has anyone had recent success with having this serviced? Any suggestions on what I can tell my dealer, or what I should tell him to reference with respect to this repair (and verifying the TSB)?

Thanks,

Dan

Having same issues on both front doors of my '08 GT at 13000 miles. Plan to discuss soon when I stop in at Sharretts in Hagerstown. Have a copy of the TSB in the console. Will update status after my visit.
