Dealer says no platinum spark plugs for MP5?

I was headed to the dealer for a tune up on my 2002.5 P5 and thought I would pick up some Bosch Double Platinum plugs from the local Pep Boys for the dealer to install. The mechanic at the dealer says Mazda does not recommend installing platinum plugs since it will not yield the optimum performance of the engine. I later returned the plugs for full refund.

Sure, this is exactly like the dealer saying, "Don't lower your car. It will not handle as well."

My question to you guys/girls is, is there any performance gained from platinum plugs and what has your experience been with them?

Stay away from "gimmick plugs". For my personal ex.

I ran a 13.21 w/ my scamp, then changed the plugs (which were just champion 9yc's) to bosch platn. +4's. I ran two consecutive 13.75's and it was misfiring at upper rpm's. I then swapped plugs back, and went back to 13.20's. I threw those things in the garbage.

bosh is crap on 4 banger imports, ngk is the best plug u can get for us. bottom line bosh made more for domestic c cars etc.

aside from brands he may also say that platinum plugs are to bad as they can heat up hotter then intended and actually start burning a hole in the top of your piston

no platinum. people think its cool because they make fancy rings and s*** from it.

its for your finger, not your engine!

So platinum is only for my iced-out grille. Ok, makes sense. They put the OEM NGK's in there for me. All that snazzy marketing almost got me.

Mech said that it often causes misfiring (hmm, someone else noticed that too).

Thanks.

rofl... i did all the help.

nah platinum plugs are good but it depends on the car. and if the piston can handle it etc

I've got those Platinums. They're a rip. The car idled slightly smoother, but that's it. I recently checked 'em, and they're too cold. Everyone on these boards goes with NGK's for a reason. :D As soon as I have some money, those Bosch's are goin' in the dumpster!
