Dealer performed flash for the hesitation problem

Can somebody tell me what in the heck this is. I just bought my MSP last week, and I've only got about 500 miles on the car. So I'm still waiting to hit 1,000 before I start to get into it, but I do have a problem with hesitation.

your car should have been plashed already, before you bought it. The dealers were to perform the calibration, on all remaining stock, when it was released.

Check under the hood for a sticker explaining this. Its either on the DS shock tower, or hood.

They were supposed to flash all remaining stock, but it seems like a lot of dealers failed to do so. Also, having or not having the sticker doesn't mean anything. I am flashed (difference was night and day, hesitation has not returned in 3 months, whereas simply resetting the ECU made it come back in 2 weeks). I don't have a sticker anywhere.

Then there is people who have the sticker saying they were flashed, but the hesitation either came back or was never reduced at all.

alright, I'll look for the sticker. However, I'm still going to set an appointment at the dealer. Because if they did perform the flash it isn't working. Thanks for the replies everybody. This forum is awesome.

No, the hesitation only happens under load.

Personally I think the Protege engine revs pretty quickly...but then again this is coming from a slow-revving very low-redline Chrysler V6.

If you are coming from a high-revving engine, the Protege might seem slow to rev up when heel & toe downshifting.

They don't have to open the hood to do the flash...it's reprogrammed through the ODB-II port under the dash.

The sticker might be on the doorjamb (near the weight & paint code stickers). Or it might not be there at all.

Got flashed awhile ago now hesitation is back, going back on friday to find out what's going on..I'll keep you all posted.

Answer to the thread: Yeah, they were supposed to flash the cars, but like me you probably didn't have it done. Go figure.

The car revs just fine, but when I accelerate it tends to have a lot of lag between shifts. I've driven turbo charged cars and it doesn't feel like turbo lag. Even when accelerating out of a gear it will hesitate or whatever you want to call it and then continue accelerating even when the turbo is already spooled up. It's almost like the turbo cuts in and out if there were such a thing.

Thanks for the lead, but I don't think that's it. It happens after the clutch has already been let completely out. I don't even have to be revving it that hard, I can be accelerating at 3-4,000 rpm and it will do it.

You have the hesitation. You can reset the ECU for a temporary fix (disconnect the neg battery cable, pump the brakes, wait a few minutes, and reconnect). Or you can get the flash done...but make sure you search for info about it before you go through with it. Once you're flashed, you can't go back to stock (unless you swap ECU's).

Thanks. I didn't think about going back to stock once I had the flash done, but would I really want to? Aren't most people who had the hesitation happier after they've had the flash done?
