YUP - YOU READ THAT RIGHT ! 03-P5 70k. original owner and babied since new. ran perfectly for that time. BAD ROD BEARING FOR NO REASON ! and i mean - no reason!! no oil loss (checked at every tank full), always maintained by me, no mods, no racing, no thrashing. just a suburban refrigerator type car - to the mall, the office and home. hey - i'm 55, this is like my 30th car. never seen anything like this !! always used the right oil and filters always maintained by a perfectionist (me). the darned thing looked and drove like new. till 5 days ago - then rat-a-tat-tat and goodbye. it's now got 20/50 in it with 2 bottles of STP. sounded fine at low revs - so i bailed it to a new car dealer on a trade-in. i told the dealer about the issue, so they know what they got.

good luck with yours - i just got a bad one - it happens.

in 55 years - i think the following numbers are close...

1 mazda, 2 honda, 1 toyota, 3 ford, 2 chevy, 1 saab, 5 triumph, 3 mg, 4 jag, 11 bmw, 1 lotus, 1 dodge, 1 mini, 2 morgan.

It's tough, but not necessarily a reason to get rid of the car. If everything else is mint, get a new engine and keep going. (rockon)

But if you can afford it, by all means new cars are FTW!

if cars would last forever wouldnt they cost more? you pay 20 grand for a car, yeah I think it should last longer than 70k but it still wouldnt last forever. I hate the fact when people claim "the car was properly maintained" well I know for a fact if the was properly maintained the car would last more than 70K. I drove the s*** out of my MSP for 65k before the motor went. And when I say I drove the s*** out of it, I mean it. There is no way a car wouldnt last for only 70k properly maintained unless it was a lemon. My 2cents for what is worth. And how could car manufactures stay in business if they produced cars that would only last 70k? Maybe this guy shouldve stuck with one of his 45 BMWs but then again they might have only last 75K!
