ddm hids for non-xenon cx-5

I used the DDM kit in my wife's 2010 Mazda 3 and also just ordered and installed one on her CX-5 (35W) without the Tech package. I like the results, and for $40 bucks, can't beat it. The one in her Mazda 3 lasted for almost 3 years and never had any issues.

I ordered the 5000k kit, and I think it is a great hue.

The pictures on my wife's CX-5 are shown here I had ordered a set of replacement 6000k bulbs for my Acura TSX with stock HID, and I do not like the light output (too blue).

The first two pics are when I replaced just the passenger side bulb for comparison with stock. The last one is with both replaced. Note the last picture is in our up-hill driveway.

Hey guys! SayNoToPistons, would you think this VVME kit is the correct one? 35w/6000k since I want white, not blue and don't think I need 55w.

Also to clarify, since this is for a non-tech CX-5 Touring, this is for low beams only. My DLR/High beams are a separate halogen, correct?

On the high beams, I was thinking if I switched to a brighter/whiter bulb, I may improve that some. I was looking at these:

Thanks!

I would order 35w/5000k for pure white.

CX-5 Touring DRL = High Beam running at low voltage. Not a separate bulb.

^ This. You are looking at about 4500 kevlins with a 5000 k VVME. It is practically factory 4300 k, but a HINT more white, but quite unnoticeable and is a perfect match to factory HID's.

Thread necromancy!

I live close to DDM, and I'm going to try the 35w 4500k tomorrow - if it's too off in temp ill just return 'em. There's also the 55w but I'm not sure I want to run them. Not because of temp, but because of ballast issues I hear they have which could cause some harness damage, possibly. I've never ran 55w before, and I've done retro's and pnp's lots of times.

Worst comes to worst, I'll just get the morimoto kit.

Try 5000k 35w for DDM if you want a perfect match with factory HID. I had their 5000k 35W H11's in my RX-8's foglights and it matched the OEM 4300k Phillips D2S damn perfect. DDM overrates their kelvin.

Word! And i'll probably get the large ballasts since the digital slims apparently aren't as powerful / more issues? Could be just hearsay.

Not sure if there's an actual difference between the large and slims in terms of output. I had the basic digital slim.

Don't get me wrong though. Granted they're one of the best PnP HID kits for under $80, they are still crap. No way I would run them as low beams. I had a few issues with one of the ballasts turning off and require resets (off/on). Also, their bulbs are built like turd compared to OEM Osram, Phillips, and high quality aftermarket Morimoto. The end result won't even be close to well cut off and evenly distributed lighting as OEM HID's. Hell, any basic plug and play HID kit will pale in comparison against a good Morimoto kit in a halogen projector.

Shell out the little bit of extra money for a Morimoto kit with the correct bulb. That is the BARE MINIMUM requirement for adequate lighting.

BAHH FINE! you convinced me to grab the mori's with the XB bulbs with the flipped wire. OEM bulb sets on Moro ballasts are probably great, also.

The Retrofit Source Morimoto's are awesome and high quality.
I've had them in several of my cars and their customer service is top notch

Yup, great move. I've been tempted to get a set for my girlfriend's 2015 non-tech. Only thing stopping me is the fact that it is a lease.

DUDE definitely do it. I'm shocked at how well they work! cutoff and light distribution is great. add the CX5 to the short list of halogen projectors that actually do a pretty great job. pics!

and the money shot. incredibly pleased! Foreground spill is a false positive in the photo, it's not as pronounced IRL. iPhone 5's hate low light.

I'll grab a straight wall cutoff later tonight.
