DarkAngel's #771 03.5 MSP is going forged......(Build/Log)

Well my Bro and I went down to his house to grab some misc things we may need and some of my old Protege stuff he had laying around and said eff it, we are bringing his damn 2 Ton Engine hoist in his P5 with us, so we did. We had to take it apart to bring it but it was worth it to make it a hole lot faster to take out the motor on the MSP and put in. We also mounted the engine to his engine stand that he let me borrow ( mine is being used by an extra Engine I have for my Acura ). I will hopefully be starting the tear down today if time permits. One main thing I need to do is get some better lighting for the garage so I will be shopping around for some Fluorescent lighting to install in my garage early this morning. Should have them up and installed in no time.

haha that hoist looks familiar...sitting on my front lawn right now lol. havent decided where to put it now that mine is done...speaking of which, how far did you get today?

Not far at all. Dang Acura keeps taking my time away..... I think its jealous LOL. Had to take off the wheel on her to bend the dust shield back into place after the axle install, Accidentally pushed it into the disc. Not fun driving with a metal to metal noise coming from the front LOL.

This build is going slower than I expected but it will get done, needs to get done. Acura need to go under the knife as well, have all the rubbers for the suspension to go in.

Well my bro and I finally took the plunge. He had the day off and so did I. It was all worth it though. I'll let some of the pictures speak for themselves.

And here is the final outcome.

Here is the aftermath from the engine. A lot more damage than I thought.

Well this is the low down. The block is shot which I already new. The MBSP has a small section at the bottom ( no picture for this though ) that is missing like a hole punched through. Because of the damage to the block it went through and actually damaged the starter! The trans was unharmed which is a good thing. Front engine mount is completely shot, rear engine mount is brand new, Trans mount is in good condition and the passenger mount is also completely gone but I already have a new one for that.

Adding more to the expenses but it will be needed. And yea as far as room goes in the back I will take pictures for people to get a better understanding of the tight location in the rear to try and mount the line for the Oil Return Line from the PRV. Almost no room at all! Well people, this is why you don't run 10-12 lbs of boost on a stock FS-DE Motor. Maybe even with a proper tune you may get away with it for a while but it will not last. This build is proof once again of the carnage it can cause. I still have to take apart the engine and inspect the MBSP from the inside.

Thanks. If all goes well it will be assembled by this coming weekend. I am really excited to see this finished.

Unfortunately our motors weren't built for boost over the stock setting and many people have proven that time and time again when they go BOOM! Just wish Mazda would have spent some time to think about this but oh well. But we all know this so things can only get better. Trying to fix the flaws now like the Oiling System and the rods so the motor lasts.

Well couple of updates. Have been taking off all the accessories to the blown engine and noticed the turbo is soaked inside with oil and also a lot of shaft play. Will have to look for a new turbo. I am hoping to find a GT28R or GT28RS for a good price and cheaper if I have to rebuild, I dont mind. I am going to see if I can fix the MBSP as it still looks like its in good condition. Here are some pictures after I took off the starter.

Here is the carnage of what I could get from outside.

I took some pictures for those that are wanting to do the External PRV. Took a picture of the width available if anyone want to run the return line to the MBSP through the rear.

Here is a 21MM Socket that fit just tightly to show the width. The width available is 32MM. Now this is give or take a couple as the section there is concaved in and can allow just a bit more clearance with an AN fitting adapter. Hope this help people out.

Oh I plan on doing so. It looks like my MSP MBSP will probably not be salvageable. I may end up using the P5 one and tapping the one side for the turbo and just tapping the pan for the PRV. Much easier and quicker. I was thinking of having the cavity filled and going with something similar to the return bung on the MSP. Looks small enough to fit the opening anyway. We'll see.

i started my build probably back in march, had to wait until april for my rods, damn k1's! Then i ran into tons of problems especially with my crank, i only got my car running about a month ago now, but now i have oil leaking into the compression chamber. It just never ends, i hope you have more luck.
