DarkAngel's #771 03.5 MSP is going forged......(Build/Log)

Thats what I had in mind as well as far as the crank was concerned. I was on a budget so rebuilding the crank was my best option. Shop rebuilt it to .010/.010. The block was a donor as well for me. They wound up cutting to .040 on the cylinders. I dont plan on putting it through hell, just spirited fun driving with some minor upgrades for durability. I want to have some fun with my MSP but not make it go boom.

I'm on a budget as well but .030 is the largest oversize bearing u can get to my knowledge so I bit the bullet for a new one. I have every intention of boosting the hell out of this motor in due time but before I push more than 10psi I'm building the head and getting the syncromesh gearset from PAR gearsets along with the 1300 differential. Zoom zoom and hopefully no boom.

Just got my Pistons and Rods today! So excited. Going to drop them off in the morning to the machine shop for final clearances. Hopefully she will be up and running by this weekend or the next. (naughty)

you can order a reman crank through a parts house. i work at pepboys and i can a crank kit for 215 shipped. cant remember if its reman or new

No not at all. Just giving a rough estimate right now but it will be about $400. Inlcudes balancing the rotating assembly, cut/hone, resurface of block and head and rebuilt crank, and hot tank. It may be a bit cheaper though as they were not able to nitride the crank due to not being able to take out the small ball bearing that plugs the gallery in the crank( They didn't want to risk it clogging up and not being able to clean the gallery).

those the wiseco's and k1 longs? i have those two same boxes next to me lol. taking all my stuff to a different shop on monday so i can have it back within a week including short block assembly.

No actually Stock Length Rods and Stock .040 over 9.1CR Wiseco's. Just got my pump yesterday. Just waiting for the shop to say when to pick up everything I got from them and start the build.

i'm pretty much where you are at this point. except the shop im dropping my stuff off to tomorrow said they will assemble it for 195. ide rather build it myself, but short block assembly for 195...i can't resist that.

Dang, assembly of the short block for 195? All they are installing are the rods and pistons and nothing else I assume. If it was the full long block for that price I wouldn't say no. Well I like building things on my own because then I know how it was put together. The shop I took it to is a very reputable shop but the past three motors, 2 machined from them, have been put together by my brothers and I with no problems what so ever. We take great care and check everything more than once to make sure it is in spec and put together correctly.

Although it did take use about 4-5 tries to get my younger brothers Starion's Vacuum lines all sorted out. Now that was a pain! They were all wrong from when we got it.

195 for the whole short block, oil pan up to the deck. he said he'd put the head on too but i would rather put the head on after i bolt the engine in. much easier access to the rear mount and intermediate shaft with no head on.

edit: my other thing too is he has the tools already for the ring gapping, bolt stretch gauges etc...so for 195 since he will already have everything, just go ahead and put it together.

It is a forged crank because the part numbers have changes pre 98 to post 98... Aka cast then forged.

Went with Clevite. Nothing wrong with them. The shop I took my stuff too has been using them for years and have used them on big horse power builds with no problems at all.

Got pictures up of everything.... well except the Water Pump but its a Brand New Bosch Pump thats not pictured. Have it all in the trunk ready for install. Just need to go get the braided lines with the oil filter relocation kit. Some odds and ends like sensors and fluids and I am all set.

I just noticed the Bearings are missing from my set...... Hmmm well I wasn't charged for them at least. Gonna call them up tomorrow and see why they were not ordered and will have to take the crank back so they can check clearances unless he has them and forgot to give them to me. Oh well anyways this is what I have at the moment.
