WTF!!!

This is by far the most embarrassing, i tried to race a gti for the first time and boom, missed second gear wtf ! Vortex.commember is probably making a kill thread now on how they beat an ms3 wtf !!!!

Is it me or is 2nd gear the hardest to shift on when on race mode ??? Ever since i had the ms3, it seems like i'm having a problem getting it on 2nd gear ...IT's like a longer stroke ???? I owned stickshift cars before an i never missshift like i do on the ms3(2nd gear). Maybe it's all that torque that i release the clutch rappidly ??? or maybe... the adrenaline pumpin in yo veins .. ????or maybe i just need practice ??? or maybe i just suck lOL(omg)

anyone else missing second or having problems with it ....damn, i hate that sound when u missshift..sounds like a burble

after installing my kartboy ss, i can say that second takes a bit of finesse with the clutch and a bit of force with the stick - the other gears are fine. i'm sure we've all got a bit of that problem unless you really put some stank on the lever, but i'm not willing to break/bend forks, or gears.

I kept complianing to the dealer finally they put an additive in it seems like its getting better now + i have the rear mount only helped a little but i can tell the difference.

Have you ever changed out the gear oil in the trans?

I put Redline MT 90 in my trans last week and it shifts much better, especially on the 1-2 shift.

Lots of members here have done so and are happy with the results.

Mazda factory fills their trannies with some pretty cheap stuff.
Cheers!

will the dealer accept non factory trans fluid if i get it done over there ? Cuz i don't wanna have issue with warranty an stuff if i use non factory products :-)

Changing your trans fluid with better stuff will not void your warranty.I would change it to a synthetic oil.

Mazda specs 75-90 GL4 lubricant for the transmission (period)

They don't specify a change interval - I suppose they leave that to the owner's disgression.

Just consider this- prior to BMW's "lifetime" lubricants, they used to call for a breakin oil change (engine, transmission and differential) at 1250 miles followed with 30k miles changes there after. Back in those days the driveline lasted the life of the car.

Now, with lifetime lubricants, loosing a trans or diff is commonplace around 100k miles.

Proof's in the pudding..

Cheers all!!

if the car is not abused the oil and fluid is changed regularly the trans and diffs should last the life of the car. in the wrongs hands, maybe a few hours.

have any of you tried using GM synchromesh in the ms3 tranny?

I used to have this problem alot when racing at the track. I have since changed to redline mt90 and the rear mount and its alot better. Also when you shift into second make sure you have the shifter against the left side. If that makes sense. That helped me alot

you're not the only one who dislikes 2nd gear, mine used to do a Cap'n Crunch 75% of the times i went 1-2. added redline mt90, but the big difference was the twm ss + bushings. as much as i appreciate the more solid feel of the new, all-metal bushings, the shorter lever is even better- now it's more of a 'snick-snick' throughout, more like a honda.

and before you start telling me 'practice makes perfect' i learned to drive on a manual and drove a crx si for 16 yrs before i traded it in on the ms3.

my $0.02 = mazda should reeeeally have made a cai + short shift standard in the ms3.

something else that has been working for me is i have rotated the shift knob about 15-20 deg clockwise and i havnt had a problem into third lately.

So switching to a Redline fluid will not void your warranty? I am considering this fix, but I am not sure how my deal will respond to such a change. Knowing mazda if I was to have a major failure in my tranny they would do everything they could to blame the "non-Mazda fluid" for the failure. Mazda is quickly becoming the new Volkswagen for mechanical quality.
