Cx7, radiator fan, po441, question!

Hey guys,
I'm writing to see if anyone can help me out. I have a 2008 Mazda Cx7 Grand Touring with 178k miles. I started having coolant leaking on the ground and my radiator fan would start getting loud when I was driving, then the car would overheat. The fan would stay on (although it would get quieter when the car was shut off) it would stay running for about 5 minutes after I shut the car off. I brought it to my local garage and they replaced the radiator. He said there was a huge hole on the bottom and explained that's why the coolant was leaking out. No coolant has leaked since we replaced the radiator, but that fan assembly keeps running annoying the heck out of me. It kicks on after the car gets to temperature, and it stays on (and loud) the entire time I drive. It only gets quieter if I'm idling for several minutes or shut the car off. The temperature gauge has not gone up since we replaced the radiator. Tonight I ran my obd2 just to see if anything was pending. It says p0441. I'm at a loss. I have no idea if I should replace the temperature sensor, the fan assembly, gas cap, purge valve? What would you guys do? My obd2 isn't very fancy so I can't do much testing with it. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!!

A few years ago I had the same problem on my mini. The fan kicks on when it wasn't running hot and it stayed on after the engine was off. It turned out to be the fan switch. If I remember correctly, it was a small part and easy to replace. The next step would have been the temp sensor. That's all I know. It's Friday night, the experts are all busy. 🙂

Thanks for replying! I'm just a female trying to figure this out on my own lol. My mechanic thinks it's normal for the fan to run like that, but everything I've read says it's not. When I got the po441 code tonight I got worried something else might be going on. I think I'll reset the code and see if it comes back. I'm going to start with replacing the fan since I can get one pretty cheap then I'll do the temperature sensor if the problem persists. I've been looking for a good bidirectional scanner that would work on older Mazdas. I'm iffy about buying a Forscan? I've read it's easy to brick your car if you don't know what your doing? I actually almost bought a Mini for my first car. I've always loved them but I heard they're a pain to work on. I'm not so sure Mazda is any easier lol. 😆
