CX-5 (possibly) Broken Into

Not sure if they got in but the door lock cylinder is punched on our '24 CX-5.

Do late model CX-5s have a factory audible alarm that triggers when a door is forced open or is it simply a silent deactivation security system?

And, If the door was indeed forced open would there not be an alert when we turned on the ignition?

Also, I assume that I can simply replace the lock cylinder but the key will be different. I've had to do this on my CRV before.

No alarms and no security systems on US models for just opening a door.

Only thing that comes to mind is may be if using the connected/online services and the mazda App. May be it can send notification to your phone.

Really? If you ask the internet it says they come equipped with a factory alert system that beeps the horn extra loud and flashes the lights if the doors, hood, or hatch are opened. I have a hard time believing that not every single modern vehicle has this.

I guess I should test it out. My CRV certainly has it.

I am not sure about that. the theft deterrent system is in the owner manual so at least some CX-5 models have it.

So you're saying when you hit the button on the remote and it sets off the alarm, the car can't do that on its own if a door is forced open while in a locked state?

Mazda does make it really vague. The system is very subtle as well, people may have it without ever noticing. But I don’t know in the US if it is there or not.

The spec sheet for the 24 mazda cx-5 in the US says it has
  • Engine-immobilizer anti-theft system
But the Canadian spec sheet says:

« Engine immobilizer theft deterrent system »

The manual name them differently, with separate sections called: immobilizer system and another section called « theft deterrent system »

So you're saying when you hit the button on the remote and it sets off the alarm, the car can't do that on its own if a door is forced open while in a locked state?
Correct. As I said above, US models don't have the alarm.

Yes. another cost cut by Mazda :) most of the sensors are missing in the US models, at least up to 2024.
Nothing to do with 'sensors' (expect maybe a shock sensor). Just a software difference.

As I said, with the Fortin remote starter box, you can enable an alarm to go off if the door is opened while the car is locked. See: Fortin EVO-ONE Remote Starter - Install How-to Posted for CX-50.

To quote from that thread:

  1. Adds Car Alarm functionality for if a door is opened after locking (i.e. glass smash or jimmied & open) or the hood is opened/jimmied - no hood switch is required, it uses the factory one. Note: it does not come with a shock or tilt sensor, but there's a socket so one can be added.

Bottom line, I've no idea why Mazda doesn't enable it for our models. There's no cost difference to them.

lets agree to disagree. The one with real "alarm" has sensors in the cabin, as well as hood open/close sensor, etc. Then is the software on top.

your Fortin is sounding the horn if a door is open when car is locked. I guess it can work as sort of alarm.

The one with real "alarm" has sensors in the cabin
Are you saying some Mazdas have a motion sensor in the cabin? That's pretty rare with anything other than luxury cars. My (other) GM car has a car alarm, but no cabin sensor. Similarly, my daughter's Ford has an alarm but no cabin sensor.

yes. Mazda has a real alarm option in other regions. There is also the el cheapo version too. Two types. Neither is in US models gen2 CX5 as far as I know.
