CX-5 Oil Consumption issues

Yup, just a short message stating I feel what everyone should s going through. Nucar Mazda in Delaware gave us the same run around. Poor responses to emails, delay on car rentals. Good luck to everyone. Mazda’s ability to stand behind this issue has me to the point of going back to Toyota. I had a Avalon that had 76,000 miles on it and all I ever had to do was one set of brakes. My wife’s rav4 the same. No issues.

I'm not blaming you for your bad experience, but Toyota is not without it's own serious issues. Big recall on the truck engines with customers waiting many months for repairs, Now automatic transmission and manual transmission problems are popping up, and the Grand Highlander has been pulled from the showroom floors. I think it's a bad time in general for auto manufacturers and the old standbys known for quality aren't exempt.

Whats the acceptable oil burn rate in modern vehicles? Or more specifically, for Mazdas?

I also have 2 motorcycles;
2021 BMW K1600
2023 Ducati Multistrada

Forum members on my BMW complains of oil burn... but the manual doesn't state anything about acceptable oil burn. This causes lots of complaints, but without knowing what's acceptable, how can we be sure it's a "Problem"?

As a new CX-5 owner I'll have to keep an eye on this. Mine only has 2,100 miles on it.

You should not expect oil consumption on your 2024. You may have read threads about exhaust valve seal leaks for turbo models prior to 2023. If you do have this issue, take it to the dealership.

Car makers used to claim that a quart per thousand miles was normal. I'm not sure how easy it is to pin them down on exactly what is "normal" when they are having issues.
The Mazda 2.5L NA with the valve stem issue might burn that much, but it might depend somewhat on the oil viscosity used, 0W-20, or 5W-30.

There's something amiss here if you're burning oil especially if it's a 2.5 engine. Sound like the oil control rings are binding or full of carbon. You can remove the oil filler cap with the engine running (be careful as oil wants to splash out the filler hole) as see to what degree, if any, smoke fumes are coming out. If present, you are burning oil in the combustion chamber which is entering past the oil rings on the intake stroke which creates high vacuum. Barring that you'd have to be sucking oil via the PCV system. Are you sure your not losing oil due to a leak - check the topside of your engine under cover for oil pooling. Are you in within the warranty period? Followed the maintenance schedule according to Mazda? What was their reason for denying repair?
