Cutting Out Stock Exhaust

Any reason why this tool can't be used to cut out the old exhaust?

i tried and it just scored the metal. it is some thick hard metal. i ended up just putting it aside and using the good ole dremel and hacksaw method. good luck though.

with that tool you just have to go back and forth a bunch of times, and i mean a bunch of times. the thickness doesn't matter that much unless you're really concerned about the time it takes.

i would rather use that tool if i was unfamiliar with a power tool cuz there's no way the tool hyperlinked is going to simply slip out of your hands and harm anything else under the car

Ditto...exactly what I used. This step is the longest part of the install.

So a Dremel is big enough for the job?

well get those heavy duty wheels about a pack i think i went through a few....http://www.dremel.com/en-us/AttachmentsAndAccessories/Pages/AttachmentsDetail.aspx?pid=EZ406... i used about three of those got em at lowes for like 12$. it allows you to cut about halfway through the pipe from the bottom but the rest i had to use a hack saw pretty much the whole top of the pipe. its not easy and takes time. the dremel can only get you to where the pipe hides under the body and dont skimp on the hacksaws comfort. i had to switch off with the wife and its long and tedious.

you dont have to cut it to get it out. Drop the rear sub frame and ur done.

how do you drop the rear sub frame? I hear it isn't too hard but I would like to have an idea what it involves. Thanks

1- Rear end up on stands, jack under the middle of the sub frame
2- Remove bolts at the bottom of the rear shocks
3- Remove 6 big honkin bolts. You need a long breaker bar and lots of oomph, or an impact wrench
4- Lower the jack and the subframe will come down, but may need some persuasion

When you put it back, the sub-frame will go back into place because it has some pins to align it. You need a big torque wrench to do up the big bolts, something like 120 ft/lbs if I remember.

saw-sall i needed 2 blades i got most of the way through and it bit on the metal and then went pop.
