custom tail lights?

headlights, taillights same thing :)
but i wonder why the tail lamps would shrink. and if you dont mind me asking did you try to take yours apart and put it back together? if so why?

well the two are not the same actrually, the headlight housing can handle hotter temperatures, because of the higher wattage bulbs in it, so it doesn't shrink, but the taillights too, and I tried testing it on a taillight I got from my bodyshop from a wrecked p5. THey shrink, and I was trying to open it to see how it would look if I spray tinted the inside of the lens, instead of the outside.

I'm not doubting you at all, but 2 of the MP3 guys tinted there taillights with no problem. And I have seen one of them in person.

And another Blue MP3 from Baltimore that I saw at a car meet.(forgot screen name)

But, both have aftermarket tails that they took apart and painted, so do you think it's just the OEM tails?

yeah I'm only talking about the OEM ones, disregard me entirely tho with the aftermarkets

Chrome Tail LIghts

Hi there, i'm new to the protege club, and just purchased a Mazda SP20 in Australia, i think it is equivalent to your protege 5.
I am really interested in the Black Chrome Tail Lights that WitchDoktor posted (or the last picture for that matter). But It seems here in Australia I cant find any distributors.
If anyone happens to be from australia or know where abouts i can get a set of the Black Chrome Tail Lights, please let me know, it would greatly be appreciated!

if you try to open them, do not heat the housings, as they will literally shrink, and no longer fit as a taillight, just a warning.

not intirely true, derreck has succesfully baked his and removed it and they still fit :)

no they were euro clear taillights, he baked them 350 degree's for 12 miniutes
alot of people bake taillights and headlights and they dont shrink, i think he may have cooked them too long or plain and simply didn't know what he was doing, becuz ppl do this all the time without problems.

He said the *stock* lights will shrink, not the aftermarket ones.

and there are a few ppl that have baked the oem ones without a problem too.

yeah same here, now that ive heard mixed reviews im gonna shell out the extra and get what i really want some cf tail lights :)

I wouldn't bake em until you have first person response that you can do it safely. I ended up getting CF euro tails and smoking em blacked out.

i know 2 ppl that have baked there oem lighs without problem.

i just asked them about them shrinking and they said HUH? shrinking? what you mean?

Like equinox, I was wondering how the P5 taillights would look blacked out from the inside. Doing it on the outside makes them appear slightly dull. Also, if you were to get them open, would there be a way to black out everything except where the lights actually shine through? I remember the Nissan Maxima SE from a couple years ago having blackout treatment, but not where the actually housing was for the light. This way you still get the cool blackout look, but all the lights shine through 100%.
