I'm new here and just wanted to know if anyone on this forum has checked out these enclosures yet? I plan on ordering one sometime soon.
This thread has the pictures: http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11149&perpage=15&pagenumber=1
and this one has the prices:

I was thinking of getting a JL Audio 10" and an Alpine amp. I currently have an Alpine head unit from my last car but have yet to install it in my P5.
Does anyone have suggestions on which JL Audio sub model to get? I am a musician and I need sound quality to be quite high or it drives me nuts.
Thanks in advance.

^why do you choose to have an alpine amp?

i guess your set up depends on what type of sound you're aiming for SPL or SQ.

as you can see in my sig, i have mostly all alpine except the amps because of 2 factors, 1) price and 2) power you can get better amps for the price of an alpine amp

I choose and Alpine amp because I really don't know better, I guess I should have asked for advice about which amp to get too.
I'm used to Pro Audio stuff where bass bins have dual 18" speakers. In fact I have one power amp which has a peak of 4350W into 8Ohms.
In respect to your question about SPL or SQ; I'm all about the SQ! If you have suggestions as to which JL subs or in respect to an amp to drive them then please don't hesitate.
I have decided one thing though, i want JL subs and speakers (the series has yet to be decided) and an Alpine deck.

In my old truck ('92 GMC Suburban) I have an all alpine system, deck, speakers, subs and amp. but it got stolen, it also had nice rims. :( but enough of that.

If you've got the power and the cash go for the JLW7 that thing hits low as hell but doesn't distort as long as you stay with-in the power range. The w7 took over where the old W6's left off, just with more improvements. If you didn't do the W7 i'd do a W3, I've got a W3D2 in my ES and it's a plenty. I've actually turned my amp down some from where I orginally set it so it doesn't over-power the mid's and highs. It's got very little distortion too.

^^ in my honest opinion JL is way overrated. but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and i did own 3 10w6's in the past but with the price, i could have gotten something better (brahma's, IDMAX's, and etc.)

but it's all up to you. if you want to do some more research, you can go to the following forums:

http://forums.caraudio.com/vb/index.php?s=

or

http://www.caraudioforum.com/vbb2/

i think the w7's are way too pricey and as 20ES guy suggested, a w3 is good and so are the w6v2's.

happy hunting!

oh yea, as for amps, try the us coustics, cadence, and jbl's. all the amps i've listed give you the best bang for the buck (though they all look ugly...but who cares, cuz we want performance than looks right? :D )

For the subs the W3s are very nice. they are tight and can hit pretty damn hard. the W6v2 will bun about $450 but will not be incredibly better unless your going to give it over 300 watts rms. The new Alpine amps are a great choice. Since your in to serious equipment you know as well as I do if 2 model list the same specs but one is much cheaper the cheaper one is garbage, same in all fields.

What does the rest of your system consist of?

If you don't have upgraded speakers and an amp for the speaker then don't go higher then a W3v2 with about 200 watts rms from a good amp. I would highly suggest JLs 250/1 amp. its great. For alpine the T320 is a good match for the W3v2. A W3 sub will run almost $170 and JL has no internet retailers that are legit so avoid that crap. I have worked with just about every JL product many times and I have always been pleased.

WHAT?!?! I'm gonna have to raise the :bs: flag here. First of all, who makes this amp, where'd you get it, and do you have pictures? Secondly, what friggin' sub (or group of subs, for that matter) can handle that much power? We're talkin like 8000+ watts at 4ohms... that's just plain not possible from ONE amp. Not even if it took up the whole cargo area (with the seats down, of course). :wtf: (beer) (stupid) (scratch) (freak) (notcool) (butt) (shocked)

He's talking about pro audio like Dj gear and large venue sound systems not car or small home theater.

Well slap me sideways and call me a moron. I suppose I was confused considering this is the car audio forum.

cyomega: Sorry for the confusion, I was just trying to point out that I'm a tad out of place in the relm of car audio because i'm accustomed to Pro-Audio. I guess you kind of helped me prove my point.

1st MP3 in NH: I'm going to be putting my system together as I get the money, I am first going to get my old head unit installed (Alpine CDM-7857) and probably some JL audio VR Speakers.
I would like to follow this with either 1 12" or 10" Sub in the custom enclosure refered to in my original post and the appropreate amp.
I would then like to upgrade the head unit to one of the higher end Alpine ones and probably use a seperate amp to power my VRs.
What is your professional opinion on this plan?

I wish I had the money to get exactly what I want because i'm extremely picky when it comes to sound quality, it is near killing me to listen to the stock system! If I put all the money I have in my guitar rig into my car... wow! Most people look at me funny because I have such an impressive rig at such a young age (19 on the 23rd), I have about $15K in guitars, amps and such.
Thanks in advance

sounds like a good plan to me I like the VRs. As you build I would replace the deck, then add VRs all around, then add a JL 250/1 amp with a JL 10W3 or 12W3, then add the JL 300/4 amp for the doors. After that I would replace the Alpine if you realy want to but if you don't have to then why bother. The newer alpines haven't realy added alot in the way of SQ in my mind.

1st MP3 in NH: Thanks for all your help in this matter.
One last question, what would you suggest in terms of size the 12" or 10" ? I'm looking for good punch and all I listen to is Rock music.
Thanks again,
Rock On!

10's when compared to 12s of the same series tend to be snappier. However this can be manipulated. A JL10W3 smacks real nice in a 1/2 cube of air space but a 12 can come close if you gice it good power. The 12 is the way to go if you have the extra money for the sub and more powerful amp and you can give up more airspace fior a box. A 10 will take up less space, less power to move fast and cost you less but it won't have the same volume as the 12.

I personaly would go with the 10.

For those interested, I got my Maxxbling custom sub-woofer today, along with an e-design 12" K series sub. I have to see the box is very well put together and it looks pro. I'll take pictures of it and the installation when I get to putting it in, unfortunately I don't my amp or any of my other equipment yet, but if your thinking about getting one of these, from my initial observations I highly recommend it.

Dude, that is the exact same setup I am going with. Just got my woofer today and hopefully have my box next week. Take pics and let me know how it all sounds. I am going to use a JBL 600.1 to power mine. Good, cheap power.

So does that mean maxxbling is still selling his boxes???????? I did a search for him to try and pm him but nothing came up. I talked to some guys at my local audio shop and they quoted me about $400 for a custom fiberglass enclosure but I would be without my car for a week. If anybody knows how to get ahold of him let me know and if you are maxxbling then please PM me about your boxes.

I am not sure if he is still making them, but I received mine today and it looks like it is going to be sweet in my P5 with my Edesign 12KD4 and JBL 600.1!

I finally got everything installed in my system, and my box sounds awesome with the eDesign 12KD4 and JL Audio 250/1. Props to Jason for making an awesome box. I'll take pictures soon so you all can see it.
