Sorry if this question is really retarded, im a noob w/ cars but hey, we all start somewhere.. anyways getting back to the question.. is customizing an exhaust better (better as in cheaper/more power)? or at least one of the above? also, if so, how/where do u get one customized? and around how much does it cost? if anybody got one, what are the power gains?

alot of ur questions can be answered like this....

1) depends on who fabricates ur custom exhuast
2)materials used to fabricate it
3) who ever fabricates it has a good knowlegde of how turbo exhausts should flow

it all depends on these three points to answer ur questions, im gettin a shop locally that does custom turbo kits for hondas and upgrades for wrx to fabricate my turbo back exhuast....full 3" all the way to th emuffler and no cats or resonator should net some nice whp gains.....if u do not want to hassle with the propects of havin to trust someone u dont know to fab ur exhaust...buy a production exhaust from ion, greddy, magnaflow, etc etc.....also i recommend stainless steel for ur exhaust....headaches aside ull be happy u forked over the extra cash in the long run.....

itz-alan- Beware, next year all of NY state starts emission sniffer tests.

if u have no cat then wont u fail emissions? and also what are "emission sniffer tests"? is that the same thing as just a emission test?

So far upper NY just has to pass a "visual" emissions test, (everything has to be there and hooked-up, not necc. to work.)
However, next year we will have to hook-up a machine that actually checks to make sure all emission systems are working by "sniffing" the exhaust.(looks for HC, NOX...etc.)

dudes i have a custom made cat back exhaust the piping is 2 and 1/4 inch diameter (stock is 2 inch diameter) stainless steel and i removed the 2nd cat and the muffler is 4 inch titanium (stock is 2 inch muffler) and it only cost me $134 ($54 fot the titanium muff got it off of ebay, and $80 for the custom pipping)
