i recently purchased a stereo from crutchfield.com. it came with the stereo, a free dash kit, and a free wiring harness. when i received my box, the dash kit was broken. no big deal, it was free. i went to best buy and purchased one myself.

i received an email with a survey a few days later, completed the survey. everything was great but i went ahead and put in the extra comments section that my dash kit was broken and i had to buy a new one.

fast forward about 5 weeks, i get this email...

Hello Brian,

Thanks for taking the time to fill out our Recent Buyer Survey, and for your valuable feedback. We greatly appreciate you for sharing your experience with us! First and foremost, I'm truly sorry for the inconvenience. Since you had to go out and buy a new kit locally, I'll be glad to refund you for the price of our kit. The $14.99 refund has been issued back to your PayPal account, and the funds will be available to you within the next three to five business days. I hope this helps!

Please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

Regards,

Nick

just wanted to pass this along to everyone. i have always heard of that crutchfield had stellar customer service, this is my proof. i wouldn't hesitate to make another purchase from them, and would recommend them to anyone.

thats it.

i didn't even look at other online sites. i compared them to best buy ($15) cheaper, plus i got the free stuff. they saved me about $50 over best buy.

I'm going to purchase a new radio today for my P5 and will be going with Crutchfield also. You do pay more, but to me it's worth it for the extra freebies.

Just curious, which head unit did you purchase? Do you recall if it had the "Fit" or "Modify Fit" notation with the particular one you purchased?

i have always bought my stereo stuff from crutchfield because of their customer service. they may be a little more expensive, but they are authorized retailers for all of their equipment, their customer service is stellar, they give you all the free wiring harness connectors and dash adapters you need, and their standard shipping is stupid fast - i've never had to wait more than two days for my stuff.

i purchased a kenwood kdc348u. all the functions and expandability that i wanted for the price i needed. the only thing i don't like about it is that half of the display is red and the other half is blue. it was listed as a modified fit, but i didn't have to do anything special or remove the rear brace like so many people on here described, it just went right in. it took me longer to get the stock stereo out (with the also included ford keys) than it did to wire up and put the new stere in.

what i thought was awesome is that along with my free stuff was detailed instructions, with pictures, on how to take apart the dash and door panels for stereo and speaker installation. i've been doing stereos forever so i knew what i was doing, but it was nice to not have to fiddle with trying to find all the screws and all that.

Just did a random price check on a Pioneer head unit and it is exactly $210 higher on Crutchfield than at Onlinecarstereo.com, not saying that everything is going to be
that much of a price difference.

you have to be careful with some brands. i think pioneer is one manufacturer will only honor the warranty if you buy from an authorized reseller, which crutchfield is. some of those "other" sites that offer exceptionally low prices are actually selling either foreign market units, or refurbished units. (sam's club does this) i'm not saying that you wont get a bad unit, but if you do it will be harder to get any service done on it without paying for it.

forgot about this thread. did that stereo come with all the free loot? the instructions were pretty nice, considering i had never had to use the ford tools to get a stereo out.

I just got the JVC KD-HDR44 from Crutchfield. The harness, tools, etc. were included, although I wish thy included crimp caps - now I gotta go to Radio Shack or roam around Home Depot a while...

BTW - anyone know of posts that discuss removing the stock head unit when the removal tools don't work? I think I destroyed a couple clips the last time I took out the HU and now have to find a post that describes the "reach around" method through the glove box... thanks!

I always purchase from Crutchfield if they have what I'm looking for. I recommend them to everyone, i just wish I got a kickback for the number of times I have sent people their way. I've been a fan since I bought my first car in 1996.
