crazy idea!

So Im having a hard time figuring out how many who are saying 'Do it' are just eggin him on in order to laugh your ass off once its done :D

Im glad he reconsidered... IMHO why fubar the entire handling characteristics of the MS3 for looks... if yer gonna do that stick with the regular 3...

yeah but there's a big difference between a speed3 and a gt-r...

It seems like there is this movement on this board that says 17" is the optimal size tire. I believe that the autimotive industry as a whole keeps going bigger with performance tires so there must be a good reason for it. As long as you are lighter than stock(my 19" example saves 5lbs over stock) I say go bigger. So I am just pointing out cars that we should be emulating are using big sizes so if it works for them why not us?

If you want the huge rims look and did the tire size I listed the set up would be the same overall size as stock. The tires offered are high performance ones. More rim and less sidewall is the standard with all plus sized rims. I don't see the causing a "fubar the entire handling characteristic". Yeah more weight would be further out on the rims and such but if your so opposed did you ditch your 18's for 16's yet? That would be basically the same thing there.

It looks cool. For 90% of cars that "keep going bigger with performance tires" that's the ONLY reason. Something like a CX-9 does not need 20" wheels on it to perform how it should perform.

Nor does something as small, light, and low-powered as an MS3 need 20" wheels. Yes, I said low-powered. Perhaps our beloved MS3's are powerful compared to the 12 year old civic we learned to drive on, but in the grand scheme, they're not exactly supercars - especially compared to vehicles being mentioned in this thread. It's pretty idiotic to compare an MS3 to the new GT-R or a high-end Porsche in terms of wheel/tire sizes.

Ask yourself this. Let's say you are an aspiring high school basketball star with size 12 feet. You find out that Michael Jordan wears model X nike shoes, in size 18. What makes the most sense - get those same nikes in size 12, or get them in size 18? I mean, Mike wears 18's, so that MUST be the best choice, right? ;)

In the end, it boils down to this. It's your car. If you want 20" wheels on it, put them on. But don't try to justify it by assuming performance will be better or comparing your Mazda to exotic supercars that use 20" wheels. Do it because YOU want to do it!

As in all things in life, there's a fine line in making wheel sizes bigger. Sure, you'll get better performance going from a 14" to a 16" on most cars on the street today. But does that mean that switching from the 16" to a 20" will also cause an increase in performance? Definitely not. IMHO, Mazda was a little on the big size putting 18's on this car, from a performance perspecitve, but that's OK - they look really good, and if dedicated track nuts want to put 17's on instead, that's OK.

Well no it would be more like making your foot magically grow into a 18 size. Wearing shoes that are to big would be like trying to put a 20" tire on a 18" rim. Or maybe putting a 245 width tire on a stock rim.

When I get my MS3 I will put on the 19s in the pic I posted. Do I want to? yes. Will it increase performance? Probly.(thumb)

Well if you WANT to then go for it but Im not sure more unsprung weight is going to increase performance... odds are its going to worsen your handling characteristics...

The enkei rpf1s will be 5lbs lighter per wheel than stock.(five-0)

I would like to see the rims on an ms3.... just for s**** and giggles, don't do it permanently. Find a friend with a cx-9 and swap rims for the day or even an hour. C'mon it'll be fun
