Crappy gas mileage

Actually the 5 gets pretty good mileage. I'm always down in the low 9's (litres per 100km) Last trip I got down to 7.8l/100km (for you americans that's roughly 30mpg!!) that trip was 90/10 highway/city. The real trick is to stop lead footing it!!! 100kmh is just about the cars sweet spot for efficiency! get to 120 and it starts to eat gas like it's going out of style!!

I fully agree with you (yes)

haha, thanks, man. i'll pick one up as soon as all these fires are under control. it's crazy down here.

I can only imagine...

Be safe out there!

I had to post my .02 after seeing this thread. I have 52k miles on my MZ5...

I have also noted a pretty big improvement in MPGs when I slow down. I normally drive on the aggressive side... I like to be passing people and beating the next red light, you know?

I drive interstate every day (70mph posted limit) and used to always push it to at least 75 and often close to 80. But I started forcing myself to set the cruise at 70 and relax. Also tried to stop racing around town so much...

Mileage has gone from an inconsistent 20-24mpg to around 27mpg lately.

Same can be said for my Durango w/Hemi... trip computer shows the mileage jumps from 18mpg @75-80 to 20mpg @65-70 and as much as 22mpg @60mph

That reminds me... is it kinda sad that my big ole HEMI SUV can run 20+mpg on a road trip and my little 4 banger car maxes out at 27?

I am waiting for the 2008's that are due soon with a 5 sp/AT, it's rated at more mpg. I hear the 4 sp/AT on the hwy can get 29+ mpg at 65 mph. Looking forward to the 20+'s after years of 16 mpg on my Nissan Pathfinder. I have an RX-8 that I have got as much as 29.5mpg on the hwy, but who wants to drive at 55 mph in the truck lane. The 5 would surely beat 32 mpg at that speed, but who's got that kind of patience for more then just one wonder what it could do? Make sure to keep your tire pressure up two more then it says in the door jam and change your air filter every 15K. Those things will really help!
