Crappy gas mileage

Ah ic… all that being said I can understand your concern. Regardless of how I drive it I can usually get mine to around 200 at the half mark. :(

Definitely take it to the dealer and approach it by stating that you haven’t changed anything, and if so you’re driving even easier on it, and the average MPH has dropped by 25% in the past few months. You’ll probably want to shock them a little bit so they don’t just blow you off with this type of concern.

oh yeah i forgot to mention that i live with my climate control set to 72f

ours is set to 72, also. hmmm. did you ever get good gas mileage?

i wouldn't be concerned if more people were getting this mileage. but (yes, i'm comparing apples to oranges) if my wrx can get better mileage than the mazda 2.3, something's wrong. when she fills up again, we'll measure the mileage, driving habits, a/c (she likes it colder than i do) and see what's up. thanks again, guys, i'll keep you posted.

I'd take it in. There has to be something wrong. I just got 23.44 MPG without ever getting onto the freeway on my last tank. I drive like a friggin' maniac, too.

I put the new filter in last weekend. My wife is filling up her tank tomorrow. We'll see how that tank goes.

I don't know if this will make a difference, but I notice a huge drop in MPG when I drive at 75+mph vs. 65 mph. I usually try to keep the cruise set right around 70. I found this out on a 1000 mile road trip.

do you have the 4sp AT or 5sp MT? It really makes a difference. Around 75mph, you'll be around 3200RPM depending on gradient. Too bad the the pre-2008's have the 4sp AT only.

after a few weeks and a new air filter, she's been getting better mileage. the first full tank after the new filter got 300 miles when the light turned on and it's been hovering around that ever since.

and i've noticed that she does drive with a heavier foot than i do. i was following her home once and when we got onto a freeway onramp, she took off like a bat out of hell. i was accelerating rather briskly in the wrx and she was still pulling away from me(pow)
thanks again, guys.

So have you checked the cold tire pressure with a gauge yet?

You can not tell by "looking" with 50 series tires.(boobs2)

since here average miles/tank jumped up 50 more miles with just a filter alone, i didn't check the tire pressure. i should, though...along with an oil change and tire rotation.

Actually the 5 gets pretty good mileage. I'm always down in the low 9's (litres per 100km) Last trip I got down to 7.8l/100km (for you americans that's roughly 30mpg!!) that trip was 90/10 highway/city. The real trick is to stop lead footing it!!! 100kmh is just about the cars sweet spot for efficiency! get to 120 and it starts to eat gas like it's going out of style!!

well, the speed limit on our freeway is 70mph, roughly 112kph. just to stay alive and not get rammed by some asshole in a 10" lifted superduty dualie penis mobile, you gotta do close to 80mph (124kph). so that probably has something to do with it, too.

The reason I am so hung up on tire pressure is I just had a tire that went bad because of running at low pressure (damaged/deteriorated the interior sidewall). Also my pop drilled it into me often when I was young.

If you think about it, tire pressures are one of the most important, but most often overlooked items by drivers today. Tire pressures affect the way your vehicle handles, accelerates, stops, and rides. Add to the fact that many cars today have low profile tires (50 series or below), in addition to stiffer sidewalls makes it all but impossible to check your pressure by just looking at the tires bulge at the bottom.(drive)

LOL you must live nearby?

ha, nah. i'm down in temecula.

as for tire pressure, it's definitely something i'm going to check into. i just keep forgetting about it.

Its the cheapest way to improve mpg. If miles per gallon are important enough to start a thread on then check them at least once a month. Put two more pounds then the door jams ask for. They can be ten pounds under inflated and just barely show a bulge a the bottom and you will be losing 2-3 miles per gallon, not to mention like the "Dude" said ruin a tire($$$).

Another thing I noticed was how much better MPG I got with the gas I bought in Oregon on a recent visit. The fuel smelled different as well.
