Well.. It happened to me!! I got in my car on Friday for a 3 hour car ride to a wedding and noticed something on the passenger side of my windshield! I majorly big crack that looks to start about 2 inches from the side on the bottom.. it goes diagonally over about 6 or 8 inches and the over to the left about 6 more inches... I sure hope my Mazda dealer considers this a stress crack because I don't feel it is my fault seeing as how it happened while the car was sitting parked in my parking lot.

can you see if there are any 'stars' in the crack where something may have hit it?
the dealership told me they had a glass expert come in to look at my windshield, and the glass guy found what looked to be indications of an impact.....these "indications" must be microscopic cuz i dont see a single thing....
I bet its a stress crack that had a little tiny piece of glass fleck off from the edge of the crack when it broke, cuz it was sitting in my driveway for 3 days and had a crack on the 4th...
at anyrate, the dealership is waiting for the district rep to call them back to authorize this or maybe to come down and look at it.

Thats what i think happened to mine...the 'star' where something supposedly impacted is so small..it could of just been where the glass chipped when it cracked...I dunno how to make them realize it could have been a stress crack...

My winshield just craked yeaterday. We had e tornado come through kentucky last night. I woke up this morning and saw a crack. Could be from the tornado or could be a stress. Either way I hope the insurance or dealership replaces it for free. I have no cash to buy a new one

The dealer won't if it was caused by the tornado or they think it wasn't a stress crack....You should call your insurance and see if they'll replace it...some companies do it for free.. some want the deductible, like mine. My deductible is more than what it would cost to replace..so my insurance can suck it..

then take it to the dealer and show them, maybe they'll be cool and think it could be a stress crack...
did you inspect the whole crack very closely and see and fell if there are any tiny little stars or marks...
also, where is your crack and how big is it?

looking at it now I dont see any tiny stars. The crack starts in the middle of my on drivers side a pilliar, its adout the size of a dollar bill
I have good news to report.. I took my car into the dealer and they came out with a ballpoint pen and after running it down the crack in my windshield about 6 times or so... they decided to replace it for me free of charge. 
Of course, they did try and blame it on a "questionable" spot they found that "may have" been a rock or something, but I was honest with the guys there and told them exactly what happened.. that it happened while sitting in my parking lot. I also told them that I belong to a newsgroup/forum online and several of people were having the same problem with stress cracks. After I told the guy that this is my car and I baby it.. no way I could have gotten hit with something and not noticed, he said that they'd replace it for me. They had to order it but it is only supposed to take like 2 or 3 days to get here... yeah.. since I dont have to spend $250 in a new windshield, I can get some tint or some other mod!

took my car to the dealer today, they said they can see a tiny spot in the crack of the glass where it looks like somthing might have hit it. needless to say they wont replace it. so i called the insurance company and there gonna replace it for free, no deductable and my rate doesnt go up

No luck for me..my dealer won't budge. They have an explanation for everything, like "well something could have hit it earlier and then it cracked while you were driving.." (this is after I told them there were NO cars around when it cracked)...
I should have just lied and told them the crack happened while my car was safely parked in my garage or something. So i have to pay 200 bucks to get a new one put in...my insurance won't cover it unless i pay the deductible which is 500...

That seems to be the case...I hope the new one I had put in will be stronger...
i hade the same thing happen to me. about a month after having the car the windshield crack right at the passenger side. there was no star no chip nothing. but they guy did a "pen" test and found that right at the edge of the gass the pen caught a "dimple". they guy then told me that a rock hit it.
hmmmm a rock hit the windsheild RIGHT as the EDGE of it. hmmm
well in the end i am paying for it my self. Mazda is doing it for $300. it's beening done today.
