Cost of Living in CA

San Diego 2 bdr. 1 bth apartment, no yard, no balcony, no washer dryer, the place was built in the 40's as military officers housing, detached 2 car garage without electricity, $1430/mo.

Do you have a family to feed as well? $75k will get you by for sure, but cost of living is higher. I have friends that are making $50k in Santa Monica area and they can afford their apartments and the WRX's and playstations just fine. I can see how it would be hard to move into California because of the cost, but it is really a great place, and once you are here, I'm sure you will like it. If you don't have any kids to move I would say go for it, if you can't make it you can always move back out again. I make 35k right now and I am poooooooor. With my girl's income we were at about $65k and doing fine, but her company went bankrupt and now she is unemployed. It hurts.

What kind of job are you getting?

I would be working with a Web Content Management system. Bascially people check in a normal word document and it goes through a workflow and is then translated into HTML. All through this single system.... I would be contracted to Sony, so I think it would be fun, but I just don't know.

I was hoping my current company would counter to keep me, but they seem to be dragging their feet....

Thanks for the info 77
