get a security clearance...those are quite valuable
cost isn't bad at all if you go to a state university and apply for Federal student aid (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/), you probably will only end up paying 2-3k per semester if you go full-time, less if you go part-time (part-time will reduce your student aid amount though).MisterT said:Can you do much with an A.S. in EE? most of the time it's the employer that will get you the necesssary clearance level to work for them once they hire you. People usually don't just go out and get a clearance on their own. They are expensive to get from what I heard.unwrittenLaw said:get a security clearance...those are quite valuable
You can do some things, but you will be really limiting the number of jobs available to you without at least a BS. Of course it all depends on what you want to do. Without work experience, you may have trouble getting your foot in the door with an AS. Don't expect to lead projects, but you could probably find some kind of support job where you build/test designs. Even with a BS or MS, you don't know enough to to impact or improve complex technology right out of school. For example, originally I wanted to improve MRI's, turns out that designing MRI's requires a Phd in EE and an MD. So, I too am settling for a paycheck with a 4-year degree instead of 8 more years of school.MisterT said:Can you do much with an A.S. in EE? and i bet she makes enough money such that $400 doesn't seriously affect her daily living, meaning she can still live in relative comfort.MisterT said:I work at Medical University of SC, and one of the physical therapists owes almost $100K in student loans! She pays Direct Loans $400 a month!! I owe $3K on my Direct Loans and am paying $50 a month. Sux, because there is so much more I can do with $50 a month!
