Cobb Update!

It seems like everyone has incredibly high expectations.

Cobb tends to be conservative in their tuning so I hope no one is greatly disappointed.

what exactly does the tuner software mean?
The protuner or street tuner?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the tuning software won't be available until late 2008. If you don't have mods that are compatible with their tuning, you will be SOL.

For example, MBC's, fuel pumps, etc. won't work correctly.

Fuel pumps won't, no. But didn't you read what he said? MBCs are garbage compared to the cobb access port so you can take off the MBC with this.

From my past experiance with Cobb and the Accessport, this is how it will work. It will come with either no maps or maybe a stage 1 map. They will have all the maps on there website for you to download. The A/P will come with a CD rom disc that has software on that allows you to take the maps off of your pc and load them onto your A/P, which then you plug the a/p into your OB port and flash the ECU. The first flash usually takes a good 20-30 minutes. Im not sure if they still plan on doing the base maps with realtime maps on top.

Im so excited to get one of these, this is great news!

Yes, I read what he said.
I said that a MBC would not work correctly.
What is it that you are trying to say?

the cobb access port itself will control boost so you will no longer need your MBC. That's what I was tryin to get at. I,ve been (cheers) :)

So they themselves say, but naturally everyone's excited about the prospect of what's looking like the first PnP EMS option to come to market. I'll be interested to see what they do with the infamous issue of the e-throttle being reduced well before redline. A master tech posted awhile back that this isn't just a protective function but also helps performance by keeping the turbo spooled up. Seems to me this would be a trade-off you'd want to finesse with some care.

I thought you could tune boost with the AP.

Not until you can tune it (late '08 when the software comes out). But they said they will raise boost some on stage 1 and moderate increases in boost have generated some pretty good increases in output with the Xede and the Standback.

OK, right the stock maps that you get will just give you the boost that COBB decides to put in them. I am just looking ahead to when they will be user tunable.

from some research and a couple of buddies running sti's , basically the AP gets loaded with a couple of maps , in our case might be stage 1 only just to get it out and then you download stage 2 from their site when it gets released at no extra cost. As far as the base map the AP will copy it from your ECU when you first plug it in , so it's not a standard map it's your map with all the particulars from your ECU being copied onto the AP to re dowload when you wanna go back to stock. If they offer the same type of maps as the sti's we might get valet mode, gas saver mode even a launch control mode although I think they do the old "use at your own risk" disclaimer. I do agree with the statement of their maps being more conservative than a balls out boost controller. I also have been told by buddies that they have taken their cars to get tuned via dyno's and those maps where saved onto the AP (although I cannot confirm that). I think basically the AP will be a quick and easy way for a stock speed to get tuned and boosted better than stock (stage 1) and a mildly modified one to get the same accordingly (stage 2).
I for one use my speed3 as a daily driver (my only car at the moment) and have no desire to see if it gets to do 12's and a month later something that costs me 3k busts, and I think overall thats who the AP is targeted for.
with that said I have not bought a larger IC or exhaust and the $700 in my pocket have been burning a hole for the better part of last year so lets all hope that mid February we are all fighting for one

They also offer a series of maps that are specifically designed for different gas grades. IE. CA 91 octane, non CA 91-92 octane, 93 octane, ect.

Another common change that occurs usually in the stage 1 upgrade, is a broadening of the powerband. Look for improvements above 5500rpm.

ok, so i told myself that i would wait a bit to let other people guinea pig the AP for me, but now that i see that release is only 4 weeks away, i don't think i'm gonna be able to stop myself when it hits the market! (bang)

remember, I said the same thing? now I'm trying to scrap up $700 for it, lol. Might have some extra honda parts to put on ebay.....

everyone else.... check out the "other forum" occasionally. cobb's been pretty active there, posting every few days and answering questions and such

Would that go as far as intakes and exhausts?

from what i've gathered, intakes need to be close, as in, the intake has to be designed correctly so it won't alter the afr that much. As for the exhausts, cobb has said they wont make that big of a difference.
They said their tunes are really conservative, so I guess you would have a little bit of leeway.

Cobb said the PROTuner will not be out till latter in the year. Not the street tuner!!!!!!!!!!!

At the initial release the tuning software may not be out for the Professional AccessTUNERs. That is anther long bit of work as well.

So what about the availability of the street tuner software?

I pmd asking about more of a clarification.
In their post they said the pro tuner has more work to do, but they also said the tuning software wont be ready for a while, so I'm unsure if they were talking about the same thing, just saying it twice, or if they were talking about both of them.
It'd be weird if the streettuner software came out before the protuner software, but thats just me.
